Amankora, the luxury lodge collection in Bhutan, is set to reopen its Paro and Punakha properties on 15 September 2026 following a renovation that deepens the brand's wellness offering. The updates, which include new spa facilities, hydrotherapy suites, and refreshed interiors, aim to strengthen Amankora's position in the high-end wellness travel segment.
Paro: Forest Sanctuary with New Spa House
Located in the Paro Valley at 2,250 metres, Amankora Paro sits within a blue pine forest near monasteries and mountain trails. The renovation introduces an Aman Signature Spa House, featuring a private hammam steam room, double treatment room, hot bath, cold plunge, and an outdoor pool. A new yoga pavilion among the pines provides space for meditation and movement. All 24 suites have been upgraded with new timber flooring, ceilings, wall cladding, and enhanced in-room amenities. The dining and lounge areas have been redesigned for a warmer, more intimate atmosphere.
Punakha: Heritage Meets Hydrotherapy
Amankora Punakha, housed in a restored 300-year-old farmhouse, now includes new hydrotherapy facilities: a steam room, Jacuzzi, cold plunge, bucket shower, and relaxation lounge. The 12 suites have been refreshed with upgraded timber finishes and climate control. A new intimate dining room seats up to 18 guests, while the original altar room remains intact, preserving the property's spiritual heritage.
The renovations reflect a restrained approach, enhancing existing strengths rather than reinventing the lodges. This strategy aligns with broader trends in the wellness tourism sector, which the ASEAN-backed HWONFEX 2026 Declaration recently targeted at a $9 trillion wellness economy. For travel professionals, Amankora's updates offer a refined product for clients seeking immersive, culturally respectful wellness experiences in Bhutan.
Reservations are now open for stays from 15 September 2026. For more information, visit the official Amankora website.
