A new study from global chauffeur service Blacklane, unveiled at the Business Travel Show in London, reveals that nine out of ten business leaders and high-net-worth individuals believe travel unlocks their most productive thinking. The 'Finding Flow – How Executives Excel on the Move' report, conducted by Censuswide among 2,000 executives in the UK and US, underscores a critical opportunity for the travel industry: seamless experiences directly correlate with executive performance.
The data shows that 93% of business travellers are more productive when trips run smoothly, yet 86% report difficulty achieving that level of focus during work travel. Disruptions not only derail productivity but also create downstream costs: 81% of executives say they must catch up on work after returning from a disrupted trip, and 79% admit their decision-making suffers when they cannot achieve deep focus while travelling.
Key Factors for Executive Focus on the Move
The research identifies three pillars that help executives perform at their best: feeling calm (86%), travelling with a trusted provider (83%), and feeling in control (84%). Conversely, crowded environments, inadequate technology, and delays are the top threats to maintaining clarity. For travel suppliers—from airlines like British Airways and Delta Air Lines to hotel groups such as Marriott International and Accor—these findings highlight the need for premium, predictable experiences that minimize friction.
Blacklane CEO Jens Wohltorf emphasized the stakes: “When travel is not calm and controlled, leaders simply cannot function at their optimum.” At the Business Travel Show, Blacklane showcased its 'Pause Pod', a soundproofed space designed to help attendees recharge and reach a flow state amid the busy venue—a tangible example of how travel brands can support executive productivity.
For travel professionals, the report reinforces that investment in reliability, calm environments, and technology—such as seamless check-in via Amadeus or Sabre systems, or curated lounge access—can directly enhance client satisfaction and loyalty. As the industry prepares for events like the WTTC Global Summit 2026 in Valletta, Malta, understanding these executive priorities will be key to designing trips that unlock peak performance.
The findings also align with broader trends in luxury travel and MICE, where personalized, stress-free logistics are increasingly non-negotiable. For tour operators and agents, offering end-to-end solutions—from chauffeur services to dedicated concierge support—can differentiate their offerings in a competitive market.
