European Consumer Claims (ECC) is marking its 10th anniversary, a milestone that underscores a decade of aggressive consumer advocacy in the timeshare sector and beyond. Founded in June 2016, the firm was established to address widespread abuses in the timeshare industry, particularly in Spain, where holidaymakers were frequently misled by high-pressure sales tactics. Over the past decade, ECC has recovered tens of millions of pounds in compensation for clients who were mis-sold timeshares.
Expanding Beyond Timeshares
Operating from its headquarters in Henley-on-Thames, with additional offices in Spain and Florida, ECC has broadened its remit. In 2024, the firm launched the Holiday Park Advice Centre to tackle consumer abuses in holiday parks, achieving early successes through out-of-court settlements. More recently, ECC has turned its attention to retirement community property developers, where consumer abuses have been particularly damaging.
Greg Wilson, ECC's CEO, emphasized the ongoing need for consumer protection. "There will always be a need for unofficial arbitrators like ECC," he said, noting the evolving nature of consumer abuse and the firm's commitment to addressing new challenges as they arise.
With a team of 150 staff and a claims portfolio exceeding £100 million, ECC is poised for further growth. "The last ten years have been a meteoric rise for ECC. But we really are just getting started," Wilson added. The firm remains dedicated to supporting individuals who have been mis-sold or unfairly treated, using legal instruments like the Consumer Rights Act to pursue redress.
ECC's work has implications for the travel industry, particularly for tour operators and travel agents who may encounter clients affected by timeshare mis-selling. The firm's expansion into holiday parks and retirement communities also highlights broader consumer protection issues that travel professionals should be aware of. As consumer advocacy continues to evolve, ECC's decade of success serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and fair practices in the travel sector. The firm's growth trajectory suggests that consumer protection will remain a key focus for the industry in the years to come.
