Embraer has reached a significant production milestone with the delivery of its 2,000th E-Jet, an E195-E2, to Azul Linhas Aéreas. The handover took place at Embraer's facility in São José dos Campos, Brazil, and marks a key moment for the manufacturer's commercial aviation division.

The E-Jet program, launched in 2004, has grown into one of the world's top three commercial jet families, with more than 90 airlines across 60 countries operating the aircraft. The fleet has accumulated roughly 48 million flight hours and carried over 2.85 billion passengers, cementing its role in reshaping regional and point-to-point travel.

A milestone for Embraer and Azul

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, called the delivery “an extraordinary milestone for Embraer and for the global aviation transport industry.” He highlighted the E-Jet's contribution to enhancing passenger comfort and operational efficiency, which have been central to its adoption by carriers worldwide.

For Azul, the delivery is doubly significant: it marks the airline's 50th E2 aircraft and reinforces its position as a cornerstone operator of Embraer jets. Since its first flight in 2008, Azul has operated more than 140 E-Jets and was the launch customer for the E195-E2 in 2019. John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul, said, “Receiving the 2,000th E-Jet, which also marks our 50th E2 aircraft, is especially meaningful to us.”

The E-Jet family includes the E170, E175, E190, and E195, along with the newer E190-E2 and E195-E2. These aircraft have allowed Embraer to expand beyond its regional roots and secure a strong position in the small narrowbody segment, competing directly with offerings from Airbus and Boeing.

Azul's reliance on Embraer aircraft has been instrumental in building Brazil's most extensive route network, connecting dozens of cities that might otherwise lack scheduled air service. The airline's strategy of using E-Jets on thinner routes has proven effective in a market where geography and infrastructure pose unique challenges.

Embraer's achievement also underscores its role as Brazil's leading exporter of high-value-added goods and a key player in the global aerospace supply chain. The company continues to invest in the E2 family, which offers improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions—attributes increasingly important to airlines as they pursue sustainability goals.

The delivery comes as Embraer showcases its record backlog and E195-E2 at the Farnborough Airshow, where the manufacturer has highlighted strong demand for its aircraft in the 70- to 150-seat category. The E195-E2, in particular, has gained traction with carriers seeking to right-size capacity on domestic and short-haul international routes.

Industry analysts note that the E-Jet program's longevity and success have made it a benchmark for regional jet manufacturing. The aircraft's popularity among airlines in North America, Europe, and Asia has also contributed to Embraer's global footprint, with operators ranging from major network carriers to low-cost and regional airlines.

Azul's continued expansion with the E2 fleet is expected to support its growth in the Brazilian domestic market, where it competes with LATAM Airlines Brasil and Gol Linhas Aéreas. The airline has also used E-Jets to launch international routes to the United States and Europe, leveraging the aircraft's range and efficiency.

As Embraer celebrates this milestone, the company remains focused on innovation and customer support. The E-Jet program's success has paved the way for future developments, including the potential for a new turboprop or a larger narrowbody, though no official announcements have been made.

For travel professionals, the E-Jet's enduring appeal lies in its ability to connect secondary cities and open new routes without compromising passenger comfort. The delivery of the 2,000th aircraft is a testament to the program's resilience and its integral role in the global aviation ecosystem.
