Princess Cruises has announced its most extensive European deployment to date, with a 2028 season comprising 291 departures across 150 itineraries. The programme, now open for booking, will see six vessels operating in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and on Transatlantic routes, covering 128 destinations in 37 countries.
New Irish Ports and Extended Voyages
Highlights include maiden calls to Galway and Killybegs in Ireland, expanding the line's presence in the British Isles. The season also introduces the Pole-to-Pole Odyssey, a 53-day voyage linking Antarctica and the Arctic, offering a unique proposition for long-haul cruise enthusiasts. Shorter sailings, from seven days, provide flexibility for agents to target different traveller segments.
Jim Berra, Chief Commercial Officer of Princess Cruises, stated: "Our 2028 Europe season gives guests the broadest range of Europe options we’ve ever offered, including new calls in Ireland and the introduction of our 53-day Pole-to-Pole Odyssey."
The itineraries include access to 101 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 32 late-night or overnight stays, designed to deepen cultural immersion. Princess Cruises is leveraging its Princess Local Connections and Ultimate shore excursion programmes to differentiate its product in a competitive market.
Booking Incentives and Competitive Landscape
Early booking bonuses are available until 12 October 2026, offering up to $500 in savings, stateroom upgrades, and onboard credits. This move aligns with broader industry trends, as seen with MSC Cruises' all-inclusive summer 2026 package, which similarly emphasises transparent pricing and added value.
Northern Europe itineraries will focus on smaller ports and dramatic landscapes, while Mediterranean routes combine iconic destinations with local experiences. Transatlantic voyages offer a leisurely alternative to flying, connecting Europe with the Americas. This strategy mirrors the approach of other operators, such as Explora II's off-peak Mediterranean itineraries, which target travellers seeking less crowded experiences.
The 2028 season represents a significant capacity increase for Princess Cruises in Europe, positioning the line to capture demand from both North American and international source markets. With 291 departures, the line is betting on sustained appetite for European cruising, even as competition intensifies from river cruise operators and luxury lines.
For travel agents, the expanded programme offers multiple sales angles: from short Mediterranean getaways to the niche appeal of the Pole-to-Pole Odyssey. The inclusion of Irish ports also opens opportunities for targeting diaspora and heritage travellers, a segment that has shown resilience in recent years.
Princess Cruises' parent company, Carnival Corporation, continues to invest in fleet deployment flexibility, allowing the line to pivot capacity based on demand. The 2028 Europe season underscores a broader industry shift toward longer, more immersive itineraries, a trend also visible in Viking's extended Alaska season.
As the cruise industry recovers and expands, Princess Cruises' record Europe season signals confidence in the region's long-term appeal. The combination of new ports, extended voyages, and early booking incentives should provide a solid foundation for agent sales campaigns through 2026 and beyond.
