Star Clippers is broadening its Eastern Mediterranean footprint with a new series of 2027 sailings along the Turkish Riviera, offering travel professionals a fresh option for clients seeking small-ship exploration of Türkiye's coastline. The itineraries, ranging from seven to 11 nights, will operate aboard the four-masted Star Flyer, a vessel that carries just 166 guests and emphasizes sail-powered cruising.

The centerpiece is an 11-night voyage from Istanbul to Antalya, which calls at Çeşme, Datça, and the Greek islands of Samos and Patmos before concluding on Türkiye's southern coast. A reverse 10-night routing from Antalya to Istanbul highlights Kekova's dramatic shoreline and the ancient Lycian ruins that line the region. Shorter seven-night options also mix Turkish ports with Greek island stops, creating a cultural fusion that appeals to both first-time and repeat cruisers.

Small-ship access to lesser-known ports

According to Terri Haas, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Star Clippers, the destination is a natural fit for the line's style of travel. “Türkiye is a destination that is ideally suited to the way Star Clippers travels,” she said. “Sailing into these smaller ports allows our guests to experience that side of Türkiye whilst the journey itself — moving along the coast under sail — becomes part of the destination.”

The itineraries are designed to showcase both historical treasures and modern Mediterranean life. Ports of call include UNESCO World Heritage sites, ancient cities, and picturesque seaside towns, giving passengers a blend of culture and leisure. The Star Flyer's small size enables access to harbors that larger cruise ships cannot reach, a selling point for agents targeting clients who prefer intimate, authentic experiences.

Star Clippers' expansion comes as cruise lines continue to adjust their European deployments. Recent industry moves, such as fleet redeployments to Europe amid geopolitical shifts, underscore the region's enduring appeal. The Turkish Riviera, in particular, has seen growing interest from both luxury and expedition operators.

The 2027 program also aligns with broader tourism trends in Türkiye. Turkish Airlines, for instance, has been expanding its European network with Istanbul stopover perks, making the country more accessible for international travelers. For cruise lines, the ability to combine Türkiye with Greek islands offers a compelling product that differentiates from standard Mediterranean loops.

Star Clippers positions the Star Flyer as a vessel that combines the intimacy of a small ship with the romance of traditional sailing. Guests can engage with the crew and enjoy the journey under wind power, an experience that sets the line apart from larger, amenity-heavy ships. The 2027 Turkish Riviera sailings are expected to appeal to seasoned cruisers and those seeking a more immersive way to see the region.

For travel agents, the new itineraries provide an opportunity to sell a niche product in a popular destination. The mix of Turkish and Greek ports, combined with the small-ship experience, could resonate with clients who have already visited mainstream Mediterranean ports and are looking for something different. Star Clippers has not yet released full pricing or booking details, but the line typically opens reservations well in advance.

As the cruise industry continues to recover and evolve, niche players like Star Clippers are carving out a loyal following by focusing on destination immersion and authentic experiences. The 2027 Turkish Riviera program is a strategic addition that leverages Türkiye's rich history and scenic coastline, while also tapping into the growing demand for small-ship cruising.
