Turkish Airlines has placed an order with Turkish defense and technology firm HAVELSAN for 12 flight simulators, comprising eight Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and four Flight Training Devices (FTD). The agreement supports the carrier's ambitious expansion plan to grow its fleet to more than 800 aircraft by 2033, and will significantly boost its in-house pilot training capabilities.

The simulators, designed and manufactured in Türkiye, will be deployed at the airline's existing simulator hangars and at the upcoming Flight Training Centre, scheduled to open in 2028. The new facility is expected to become one of Europe's largest flight training centers, spanning three campuses.

Domestic Technology and EASA Certification

All simulators in the order are built to EASA Level D standards, the highest certification for full-flight simulators. Turkish Airlines currently operates HAVELSAN-manufactured simulators for the Airbus A320NEO/CEO and Boeing 737 families, and the new order marks an expansion into wide-body simulation. HAVELSAN General Manager Dr. Mehmet Akif Nacar described the deal as a milestone for the company's entry into the wide-body flight simulation segment.

Prof. Murat Şeker, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, stated: "With these new orders, by 2033 the Turkish Airlines Flight Training Centre will become one of Europe's largest flight training centres across three campuses." He emphasized that the initiative will not only meet the airline's own training needs but also offer services to other carriers.

The partnership reinforces Turkish Airlines' commitment to domestic technology and aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Türkiye's aviation ecosystem. The airline has previously invested in pilot training infrastructure, including a simulator deal with CAE, and continues to prioritize self-sufficiency in crew development.

As the carrier expands its network—recently joining a sustainable aviation fuel fund and adding new routes—the investment in training capacity ensures a steady pipeline of qualified pilots. The simulators will support both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft types, critical as Turkish Airlines adds long-haul destinations and increases frequencies on existing routes.

The deal also highlights the growing role of Turkish defense and technology companies in the global aviation training market. HAVELSAN's simulators are already used by multiple airlines and training centers worldwide, and this order solidifies its position as a key supplier to one of the world's largest carriers.
