United Airlines has confirmed it will restart nonstop flights between Tel Aviv (TLV) and San Francisco (SFO) on March 30, 2027. The three-times-weekly service will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, configured with 257 seats including 48 all-aisle-access flatbeds in United Polaris business class. This gives United the largest premium cabin capacity on the route among all carriers.

The resumption is part of United's most extensive international network expansion in its history, which adds 10 new cities and three new routes across Europe and Asia. The airline is also introducing the Airbus A321XLR to support growth into secondary European markets.

Reconnecting tech hubs

The Tel Aviv–San Francisco link is strategically important for both the Israeli and Bay Area technology sectors. United's country sales manager for Israel, Yael Barzilay, said the service "restores a vital connection between two leading innovation centers, giving our customers in Israel more travel options and seamless access to over 225 destinations across the Americas via our U.S. hubs."

Barzilay added that the decision followed a thorough review of operational, safety, and security conditions in the region. United had suspended the route in 2023 amid regional instability, and its return signals a gradual recovery of long-haul connectivity from Israel.

The new schedule will allow convenient connections from Tel Aviv to major U.S. cities beyond San Francisco, including Los Angeles, Seattle, and Denver, through United's West Coast gateway. The airline also operates daily service between Tel Aviv and Newark Liberty International Airport, providing additional access to the Northeast corridor.

Expanding global footprint

Beyond Tel Aviv, United's expansion includes new destinations such as Okinawa, Japan, and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. The carrier plans to serve more cities in Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France than any other U.S. airline. The A321XLR will debut on several transatlantic routes, offering greater range and efficiency for thinner markets.

United's aggressive growth strategy comes as international travel demand remains robust, particularly in the premium segment. The airline's focus on business-class comfort and connectivity aligns with the needs of corporate travelers and tech-industry professionals who frequently fly between Israel and the U.S. West Coast.

Industry analysts note that the Tel Aviv–San Francisco route has historically been one of the most profitable long-haul markets for U.S. carriers, driven by high-yield business traffic. United's move to offer more Polaris seats than competitors could intensify competition on the route, which is also served by El Al and other carriers.

All new flights are subject to government approvals, and United said it will continue to monitor the security environment in the region. The airline's commitment to Israel is underscored by its investment in the Tel Aviv–Newark route and its partnership with local travel agents and corporate clients.

For travel professionals, the resumption opens new opportunities for corporate contracts, group bookings, and premium leisure travel. United's expanded schedule also provides more options for connecting passengers from Europe and Asia via its U.S. hubs.

As United rolls out its largest international expansion, the airline is also enhancing its digital tools for agents, including improved booking capabilities and real-time inventory updates. The carrier's focus on technology and customer experience is expected to drive loyalty among frequent flyers.

Related developments in the region include SriLankan Airlines restoring its Kuwait service, and Riyadh Air expanding its Asia network. United's own expansion is detailed in its recent route announcement, and the carrier's marketing innovations are highlighted in its partnership with Disney.
