Vietjet has launched its annual 9.9 sale, offering Eco-class tickets from USD0 (excluding taxes and fees) and a 22% discount on Deluxe base fares. The promotion runs from 00:00 on 8 September to 23:00 on 10 September 2026 (UTC+7) via the airline's website and mobile app, covering travel between 10 September 2026 and 10 September 2027, with select blackout dates.

The sale comes as Vietjet accelerates its international expansion. On 25 October, the carrier will launch direct flights between Hanoi and Tainan, operating four round trips weekly. This route is part of a broader push that includes new services from Hanoi to Almaty and Prague, and a planned connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney via the new Western Sydney International Airport, set to begin in January 2027.

Network growth and fleet strategy

Vietjet's route development reflects a strategy to position Vietnam as a key hub for both leisure and business travel. The Hanoi-Tainan link, for instance, taps into growing demand between Vietnam and Taiwan, a market that has seen steady traffic growth. Similarly, the Almaty and Prague routes open new corridors to Central Asia and Central Europe, while the Sydney service will mark Vietjet's entry into the Australian market.

The airline's modern fleet, which includes Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, supports its point-to-point model and enables efficient deployment on both short-haul and medium-haul routes. Vietjet has also been investing in in-flight services, including Vietnamese cuisine and entertainment options, to differentiate its product in a competitive low-cost segment.

Industry observers note that Vietjet's aggressive pricing and network expansion are designed to capture market share from legacy carriers on regional routes. The 9.9 sale, in particular, is a proven tactic to stimulate demand during the shoulder season, filling seats that might otherwise go empty.

For travel agents and tour operators, the sale offers an opportunity to package Vietnam-bound itineraries at attractive price points. The zero-fare Eco tickets, while subject to taxes and fees, can significantly lower the base cost of a trip, making Vietnam more accessible to budget-conscious travelers.

Vietjet's move also aligns with broader trends in the Asia-Pacific aviation market, where low-cost carriers are increasingly competing on long-haul routes. The airline's planned Sydney service, for example, will put it in direct competition with established players on the Australia-Southeast Asia corridor.

As Vietjet continues to grow its international footprint, its focus on cost efficiency and route innovation will be key to sustaining momentum. The 9.9 sale, combined with new route launches, underscores the airline's ambition to connect Vietnam with more global destinations.
