Plaza Premium Group (PPG) is celebrating the first anniversary of Aerotel Shanghai, its in-terminal airport hotel located in Terminal 2 of Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Since opening, the property has aimed to redefine airport transit hospitality, offering efficient and comfortable stays for transit passengers and early arrivals with flexible hourly bookings.
To mark the milestone, Aerotel Shanghai has rolled out a series of upgrades designed to cater to both domestic and international travelers. The hotel now features ergonomic mattresses from Sealy and a bespoke herbal pillow menu, including a new Lavender & Cassia Seed option, aimed at improving sleep quality. Mindful yoga suites provide in-room yoga experiences with guided video tutorials, catering to wellness-focused guests.
Dining and cultural touches
The hotel's dining venue, The Hub, has introduced a seasonally changing menu that emphasizes Eastern nourishment and health-focused food and beverage options. This includes wellness herbal teas rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, offering travelers a relaxing wellness break. The entrance hallway has been transformed into the "Shanghai in Transit" art gallery, integrating Shanghai's cultural identity into the traveler's experience.
During the anniversary celebration, PPG's CEO, Song Hoi See, expressed gratitude to partners and passengers, emphasizing the group's commitment to service excellence. "Transiting can be an exhausting experience, and our goal is simply to take good care of passengers on the move," he stated.
As PPG celebrates Aerotel's 10th anniversary globally, the brand continues to expand, with new hotels planned in Guangzhou, Muscat, Alicante, and Amman by early 2027. This growth reflects PPG's broader strategy to enhance airport hospitality across key international hubs.
The anniversary comes amid a broader uptick in premium travel demand in the region. Recent data shows Singapore premium travel bookings surged 137% in the first half, underscoring the appetite for high-end airport services. PPG's investment in Aerotel Shanghai aligns with this trend, positioning the brand to capture growing transit traffic at one of Asia's busiest airports.
For travel professionals, Aerotel Shanghai's first-year performance offers insights into the evolving expectations of transit passengers. The integration of wellness amenities, local culture, and flexible booking options reflects a shift toward more personalized and restorative airport experiences. As PPG expands its Aerotel footprint, these elements are likely to become standard across new locations.
Plaza Premium Group's continued focus on innovation in airport hospitality is also evident in its recent leadership appointments, such as Diana Borchard leading the Chile lounge expansion. The group's ability to adapt to regional markets while maintaining global standards will be key to its success in upcoming projects.
With the new Aerotel properties slated for Guangzhou, Muscat, Alicante, and Amman, PPG is set to strengthen its presence in key transit corridors. The company's commitment to service excellence, as highlighted by Song Hoi See, remains central to its growth strategy.
