Jin Jiang Hotels has confirmed plans to introduce its Renjoy brand to Southeast Asia through a management agreement with Techvance Hotel & Resort. The existing Sand & Sandals Desaru Beach Resort & Spa in Johor, Malaysia, will be rebranded as Renjoy Hotel Desaru, marking the brand's first property in the region.

The move aligns with Malaysia's robust tourism recovery. In 2025, the country recorded 42.2 million international arrivals, an 11.2% year-on-year increase. Johor alone welcomed 10.63 million overnight tourists, benefiting from improved regional connectivity and growing demand for beachfront leisure destinations.

Strategic expansion in Malaysia

The collaboration leverages Techvance's local market knowledge and Jin Jiang Hotels' international operational expertise. The rebranded property will sit in the upper-midscale segment, offering a hospitality experience rooted in local culture while retaining its beachfront charm.

Renovations will include updated guest rooms, new dining concepts, and upgraded facilities designed to appeal to both leisure and corporate travellers. The property's location in Desaru, a coastal area increasingly popular with regional visitors, provides a strong foundation for the brand's debut.

“Desaru's beachfront setting provides a strong foundation for the brand,” said Li Xun, Regional General Manager of Jin Jiang Hotels in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The project is part of Jin Jiang Hotels' broader expansion across Southeast Asia. Alongside Renjoy Hotel Desaru, the company plans to open a 7 Days Premium Hotel in Tanjung Malim in the first half of 2027, reflecting its strategy to cover multiple market segments in the region.

Industry observers note that the move underscores the growing appeal of secondary beach destinations in Malaysia, particularly as regional travel demand continues to rise. The rebranding is expected to enhance the property's competitiveness and support Johor's tourism growth.

For travel professionals, the launch signals increased options for clients seeking midscale beachfront accommodations with international standards. The property's dual focus on leisure and corporate segments may also appeal to MICE planners looking for coastal venues.

Jin Jiang Hotels' entry into the Malaysian market with the Renjoy brand follows similar moves by other international hotel groups expanding their portfolios in Southeast Asia. The company's multi-brand approach, including the upcoming 7 Days Premium property, highlights its commitment to capturing diverse traveller preferences.

As Malaysia's tourism sector continues its upward trajectory, the Renjoy Hotel Desaru is poised to become a key player in the region's hospitality landscape.
