Air Astana Group, parent of flag carrier Air Astana and low-cost unit FlyArystan, closed out a record summer season, operating 525 domestic flights per week across Kazakhstan plus 57 weekly services to the Caucasus and 49 to China. The group's expanded schedule reflects its ability to scale capacity in response to sustained travel demand across its network.
Group CEO Ibrahim Canliel said the summer performance demonstrated strong appetite for air travel. “We delivered a record flight programme, significantly increasing flight frequencies and expanding our route network,” he noted. The group's on-time performance reached 86% for June–July, a figure 16 percentage points above the European carrier average, underscoring operational discipline during peak season.
China expansion leads growth
Capacity to mainland China jumped 81% compared with summer 2025, driven by new routes from Almaty to Shanghai and Xi'an, Astana to Guangzhou, and Aktau to Urumqi. Almaty–Guangzhou went daily from 1 September, and FlyArystan launched Almaty–Chongqing on 23 September. These additions align with Kazakhstan's open-skies policy fueling tourism growth, which has helped boost inbound and outbound traffic.
In Central Asia and the Caucasus, Almaty–Tashkent frequencies rose to three times daily, with new services to Samarkand, Issyk-Kul, and Batumi. European routes also saw upgrades: Almaty–London increased to four weekly flights, Frankfurt is served up to 11 times weekly, and a new Almaty–Larnaca route opened, giving Cyprus a direct link from Kazakhstan.
Asian services remain robust, with Delhi operating twice daily, Mumbai three times weekly, and Nha Trang daily. Thailand and South Korea are served with 12 and 11 weekly flights respectively, maintaining strong connectivity for leisure and business travelers.
The summer results highlight Air Astana Group's strategic focus on high-demand corridors while improving efficiency. The group's mixed-fleet approach, combining full-service and low-cost operations, allows it to adjust capacity quickly—a key advantage in a volatile market.
Industry observers note that Air Astana's expansion comes as Central Asian aviation gains traction, with carriers like Uzbekistan Airways and Kazakhmys also adding capacity. The group's on-time performance, a critical metric for corporate and premium travelers, positions it well against regional competitors.
Looking ahead, Air Astana Group is expected to maintain momentum into the winter season, with potential new routes and continued frequency increases on popular services. The success of the summer programme reinforces the group's role as a bridge between Europe, Asia, and Central Asia.
