Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines are significantly deepening their joint venture for the Northern Winter 2026 season (25 October 2026 – 27 March 2027), responding to sustained demand from premium travellers and connecting markets across Asia, India, and Europe. The alliance will increase overall seat capacity between Singapore and New Zealand by 17%, adding roughly 72,000 seats to bring the seasonal total to more than 490,000.
New Christchurch Services and Expanded Auckland Options
A centrepiece of the expansion is Air New Zealand's new non-stop Christchurch–Singapore service, operated three times weekly with Boeing 787 aircraft. This complements Singapore Airlines' existing up to 12 weekly flights on the Christchurch–Singapore corridor. During the peak months of November 2026 through February 2027, the partners will offer up to 15 weekly flights on that route, improving access to New Zealand's South Island for travellers from across the SIA network.
On the Auckland–Singapore sector, Air New Zealand will add four weekly services using a mix of Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft, on top of its existing daily 777-300ER flight. Singapore Airlines will restructure its current three-times-daily Auckland schedule to two daily flights, focusing on higher-capacity widebodies.
A380 Deployment Lifts Premium Capacity
For premium travellers, the most notable change is Singapore Airlines' decision to deploy the Airbus A380 daily on SQ285/286 to and from Auckland, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER for the entire Northern Winter season. The A380 offers 471 seats across four cabins: Suites, Business, Premium Economy, and Economy. This swap significantly increases First/Suites and Business Class availability to Auckland, and later in the season a 777-300ER with First will join the A380, effectively doubling daily First/Suites capacity on the route.
Air New Zealand's additional Auckland and Christchurch flights, operated by 777-300ER and 787-9 aircraft with long-haul Business Premier cabins, further widen premium options for both point-to-point New Zealand–Singapore traffic and onward connections via Changi.
Connectivity Across Asia, India, and Europe
Air New Zealand Chief Operations and Alliances Officer Michael Williams said the expansion underlines the strength of the partnership and its importance in connecting New Zealand to the world. Through Singapore's role as a major global hub, the joint network offers one-stop access to New Zealand from South East Asia, India, the UK, Europe, and beyond, while giving New Zealanders more options into SIA's extensive long-haul network.
Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Marketing Planning Dai Haoyu noted that the A380 deployment “reflects our commitment to this important market” and complements Air New Zealand's additional capacity. For visitors, the new Christchurch services open more convenient access to South Island icons such as Queenstown, Wanaka, and the West Coast without a domestic connection via Auckland.
The expanded schedule also aligns with broader trends in premium travel demand, as seen in other recent route developments such as Starlux Airlines' planned Sydney–Taipei–Auckland service in 2027.
What It Means for Premium Travellers
For premium and frequent flyers, the expanded alliance brings more premium seats on the New Zealand–Singapore corridor: a daily A380 plus a 777-300ER rotation to Auckland, alongside Air New Zealand's 777 and 787 services, materially increases availability in Suites/First, Business, and Premium Economy. Non-stop Christchurch flights on Air New Zealand's 787-9 with lie-flat Business Premier cabins make it easier to fly directly into the South Island from Asia or Europe in a premium product. Coordinated schedules, reciprocal frequent flyer earning and redemption, and access to Air New Zealand and SIA lounges at key points make through-journeys smoother for high-value travellers.
Flights under the expanded schedule are on sale now for travel between 25 October 2026 and 27 March 2027, subject to regulatory approval. For the latest schedules and to book, visit airnewzealand.co.nz or singaporeair.com.
