Air Tahiti Nui and Air Tahiti have officially launched a codeshare partnership that will allow passengers to combine international and domestic inter-island flights on a single ticket. Effective 3 June 2026, the agreement places Air Tahiti Nui’s TN code on select Air Tahiti-operated routes, streamlining connections for travelers heading to French Polynesia’s outer islands and beyond.
The collaboration covers key destinations such as Bora Bora in French Polynesia and Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. International flights will be operated by Air Tahiti Nui using its Boeing 787-9 Tahitian Dreamliner from gateways including Paris (CDG), Los Angeles (LAX), Tokyo (NRT), and Auckland (AKL). Inter-island segments will be flown by Air Tahiti on ATR 72 turboprops, which serve the archipelago’s smaller airstrips.
Single-Ticket Convenience for Travel Professionals
For travel agents and tour operators, the codeshare eliminates the need to piece together separate bookings for international and domestic legs. Clients can now purchase one itinerary that covers both the long-haul crossing and the onward connection to islands such as Moorea, Raiatea, or Rangiroa. This simplification is expected to reduce booking friction and improve customer satisfaction, particularly for leisure travelers and honeymooners who make up a significant share of the French Polynesia market.
“This agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between Air Tahiti Nui and Air Tahiti,” said a spokesperson for the carriers. “It enhances connectivity throughout the South Pacific, making it easier for international travelers to explore the beauty and culture of The Islands of Tahiti and beyond.”
The codeshare also supports the tourism strategy of French Polynesia’s government, which has been working to boost visitor numbers from Europe, North America, and Asia. By offering a seamless booking experience, the partnership aims to increase stopover traffic and encourage longer stays across multiple islands.
Air Tahiti Nui currently serves Papeete (PPT) from four international points: Paris Charles de Gaulle, Los Angeles, Tokyo Narita, and Auckland. Air Tahiti operates an extensive network of inter-island flights covering 48 islands and atolls. The codeshare will initially cover a subset of these routes, with potential expansion based on demand.
The move follows a broader trend of interline and codeshare agreements among Pacific carriers. Similar partnerships have been forged by SAS and Garuda Indonesia to link Scandinavia with Southeast Asia, and by Air India and Riyadh Air to boost India–Saudi connectivity. For travel professionals, such agreements reduce complexity and open new routing possibilities for clients.
From a technology standpoint, the codeshare is supported by the carriers’ respective reservation systems, enabling real-time inventory sharing and automated ticketing. This ensures that agents can book the combined itineraries through standard GDS platforms such as Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport without manual intervention.
The June 2026 start date gives the industry time to update systems and train staff. Airlines and tour operators are advised to review their product offerings for French Polynesia and consider packaging the new seamless connections into holiday deals. The partnership also presents an opportunity for cruise lines and MICE organizers who require coordinated airlift for group movements to remote islands.
As the South Pacific travel market continues to recover and grow, this codeshare positions Air Tahiti Nui and Air Tahiti to capture a larger share of the premium leisure segment. Travel professionals should monitor the rollout and prepare to promote the enhanced connectivity to clients seeking multi-island experiences in one of the world’s most remote and desirable destinations.
