SAS and Garuda Indonesia have formalised a codeshare partnership that will enhance travel links between Scandinavia and Southeast Asia, with services commencing in the Winter 2026/2027 season. The agreement, signed during the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, was announced by Garuda Indonesia's Director of Transformation, Neil Raymond Mills, and SAS President and CEO, Anko van der Werff.
Network and Connectivity
The codeshare will allow passengers to book single-itinerary flights connecting Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo with Jakarta and Bali. Key connecting hubs include Amsterdam (AMS), Tokyo Haneda (HND), and Bangkok (BKK). Garuda Indonesia customers will gain access to SAS's Scandinavian gateways, while SAS travellers can reach Indonesian destinations through Garuda's domestic and regional network.
Van der Werff emphasised the strategic importance of the tie-up: “Garuda Indonesia is a key partner for connecting Scandinavia with Indonesia and the wider region. Together, we are making travel simpler and more seamless for the many people, businesses and communities with ties between our countries.”
Both carriers are members of the SkyTeam alliance, and this codeshare extends their existing cooperation within the alliance framework. The partnership is expected to stimulate both leisure and business travel between Northern Europe and Indonesia, a market that has seen growing demand for medical tourism and trade links — as highlighted in recent reports on Indonesian demand fuelling Malaysia's medical tourism expansion.
Frequent Flyer Benefits and Booking Timeline
Members of SAS EuroBonus and GarudaMiles will be able to earn and redeem points on all codeshare flights, providing added value for frequent travellers. Tickets under the agreement will go on sale from 9 June 2026, with the first travel date set for 15 June 2026.
SAS, which operates its main hub at Copenhagen Airport (CPH) and serves over 25 million passengers annually, continues to focus on operational excellence and reducing CO₂ emissions. The airline's commitment to sustainability aligns with broader industry trends, as seen in other recent codeshare announcements such as Etihad and TAROM's partnership linking Abu Dhabi to Eastern Europe.
For travel professionals, this codeshare opens new opportunities for itineraries combining Scandinavia with Indonesia, particularly for corporate travel, MICE groups, and leisure travellers seeking multi-destination trips. The partnership also strengthens the SkyTeam network in Asia-Pacific, a region where carriers like Starlux Airlines are expanding long-haul services.
Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier of Indonesia, operates a comprehensive network across the archipelago and key international routes. The codeshare is expected to boost tourism flows to Bali and Jakarta, while also facilitating connections to other Southeast Asian destinations via Garuda's hub at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK).
