Airbus Helicopters and LIG Defence & Aerospace (LIG D&A) have deepened their strategic collaboration to develop next-generation uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), building on a preliminary agreement first announced at Seoul ADEX. The expanded partnership aims to integrate LIG D&A's advanced sensor and mission system technologies into Airbus' UAS platforms, targeting evolving requirements in the global defence sector.

Technical Integration and AI-Driven Capabilities

Under the new framework, engineering teams from both companies will work jointly to enhance intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities. A key focus is the development of AI-driven sensor fusion and extended endurance features, which are critical for modern defence operations. The partnership also includes a joint technical study to explore artificial intelligence applications that improve UAS performance and operational efficiency.

Matthieu Louvot, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, stated: “This expanded agreement represents a pivotal milestone in Airbus’ relationship with LIG D&A as we move from high level alignment to deep technical and operational synergy.” Ick-Hyun Shin, CEO of LIG D&A, echoed this sentiment, highlighting a shared vision to create versatile aerial solutions that address defence needs in Korea and beyond.

The collaboration positions both companies to deliver future-proof capabilities for critical defence and security missions. By combining LIG D&A's expertise in sensor technology with Airbus' UAS platforms, the partnership aims to offer integrated solutions that can adapt to rapidly changing threat environments.

This development comes as Airbus continues to expand its footprint in the defence and aerospace sector. The company's operations generate significant economic impact, as highlighted in a recent report on Airbus Operations Generate $8.4B GDP Impact Across Canadian Economy. Additionally, Airbus has been active in the luxury helicopter market, with the Airbus ACH130 Aston Martin Edition entering the Japan market through a partnership with NOT A HOTEL.

The expanded UAS partnership underscores the importance of technological integration and collaborative development in the defence landscape. For travel industry professionals, particularly those involved in defence-related travel and logistics, this collaboration signals potential advancements in aerial surveillance and security that could impact global travel patterns and infrastructure.
