Atlas Ocean Voyages has announced the expansion of its Fly the Drake expeditions for the 2027–2028 season, offering luxury travelers a more efficient route to Antarctica. The program, which uses private charter flights between Punta Arenas, Chile, and King George Island, reduces transit time to roughly two hours, allowing guests to spend up to six full days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula.
Two Expedition Styles for Maximum Flexibility
Atlas offers two distinct itineraries. The Fly the Drake option eliminates the two-day Drake Passage crossing entirely, while the Drake Fly & Sail combines a one-way sailing with a return flight. Both options prioritize time on the continent, with daily Zodiac safaris, guided landings, and expert-led excursions led by a 17-member expedition team including polar historians, marine biologists, and naturalists.
Seasonal variations shape the experience: November and December feature pristine snowscapes and penguin courtship, while February brings peak wildlife activity, including seal pups and whale sightings. Optional activities such as kayaking and overnight camping are available, alongside the signature Polar Plunge.
Boutique Luxury Aboard Polar Category C Yachts
Atlas operates Polar Category C expedition yachts carrying fewer than 200 guests, ensuring an intimate, yacht-like atmosphere. Suites are spacious, dining features globally inspired menus with plant-based options, and premium beverages, 24-hour room service, and gratuities are included. Before departure, guests enjoy a curated Patagonian experience in Punta Arenas, with regional cuisine and local storytelling.
The expansion responds to growing demand for time-rich, meaningful travel to Antarctica. As Atlas Ocean Voyages CEO James Rodriguez noted, “We’re giving travelers more of what they want—less time in transit, more time immersed in the White Continent.”
For travel professionals, this program complements other polar offerings in the market. Ponant’s 2027 Antarctica Voyage with Jonathan Shackleton provides a historical perspective, while Aurora Expeditions marks 35 years with discounts. Atlas’s focus on luxury and efficiency positions it as a strong option for high-end clients seeking a seamless polar experience.
Six departures are scheduled across the 2027–2028 season. For more details, visit atlasoceanvoyages.com.
