Asset World Corp (AWC) has confirmed a licensing agreement with Universal Destinations & Experiences to develop Thailand's first DreamWorks Animation-themed hotel at the Aquatique Pattaya beachfront complex. The property, slated to open in the first quarter of 2033, will feature approximately 300 rooms and a dedicated indoor-outdoor water park, positioning the destination as a major family entertainment hub in the Eastern Economic Corridor.

The hotel will integrate DreamWorks Animation stories and characters throughout the guest journey, from themed public spaces to in-room storytelling elements. The water park, designed as a standalone attraction, will offer rides and experiences inspired by franchises such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar, aiming to draw both domestic and international visitors to Pattaya's shoreline.

Strategic expansion for AWC and Pattaya

AWC CEO Wallapa Traisorat emphasized the project's role in transforming Aquatique into a comprehensive family destination. "With Thailand's first DreamWorks Animation-themed hotel, Aquatique moves beyond a collection of world-class components to become a complete story," she said. The development is part of AWC's broader strategy to diversify Pattaya's tourism offerings beyond its traditional nightlife and conference segments.

Gerald Raines, Senior Vice President at Universal Destinations & Experiences, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. "We're exploring new ways to bring DreamWorks Animation stories to life, from the energy and adventure of a themed water park to a hotel where the storytelling extends throughout the stay," he stated. This marks Universal's first branded hotel in Thailand, following similar themed properties in the United States and Asia.

The Aquatique complex already includes the Moxy Pattaya, which opened as the fourth hotel in the development, and the recently rebranded Avani Pattaya Resort. The addition of a DreamWorks property is expected to elevate the area's appeal to families, a segment that has been growing steadily in Thailand's resort cities.

Pattaya's tourism recovery has been robust, with event-driven initiatives like the Pattaya Marathon 2026 projected to attract 40,000 participants. The city's infrastructure, including the high-speed rail link to Bangkok and the expansion of U-Tapao International Airport, supports long-term growth in both leisure and MICE travel.

The project is expected to generate significant local employment during construction and operations, while also stimulating ancillary businesses such as restaurants, retail, and tour operators. AWC has committed to sustainable tourism practices, including energy-efficient building designs and community engagement programs, aligning with Thailand's national tourism development goals.

Industry analysts view the partnership as a strategic move for AWC to differentiate its portfolio in a competitive market. "Themed hotels are a proven draw for repeat visits, especially when combined with a water park," noted a hospitality consultant based in Bangkok. "This could set a new benchmark for family entertainment in Southeast Asia."

Universal Destinations & Experiences, a division of Comcast NBCUniversal, operates theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Osaka, Singapore, and Beijing. The company has been expanding its licensing business, with branded hotels and attractions in various international markets. The Pattaya project is part of a broader push to bring its intellectual properties to non-traditional venues.

Construction is expected to begin within the next two years, with a soft opening targeted for late 2032. AWC has not disclosed the total investment, but analysts estimate the development could exceed THB 10 billion (approximately USD 280 million), reflecting the scale of the water park and themed accommodations.

For travel professionals, the new hotel adds a significant family-oriented option to Pattaya's inventory, complementing existing luxury and business properties. Tour operators and agents can anticipate packaging opportunities that combine the DreamWorks experience with other Eastern Seaboard attractions, such as the Sanctuary of Truth and Koh Larn island excursions.

The announcement comes as Pattaya continues to reposition itself as a year-round destination, with a focus on quality tourism and event-based travel. The Pattaya Marriott Resort and Spa has already redefined luxury at nearby Jomtien Beach, and the DreamWorks hotel is expected to further raise the bar for themed hospitality in the region.
