Capella Hotel Group has brought back Feisal Jaffer as Chief Development Officer, a move that signals an accelerated push into new markets. Jaffer, who previously played a key role in the group’s growth, will now lead development for both the Capella and Patina brands, focusing on hospitality-driven real estate platforms.
Jaffer returns at a time when Capella Hotels and Resorts has been named Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Hotel Brand for three consecutive years. The group’s Patina brand is also gaining momentum, with Patina Tianjin set to open in China. The company aims to double its portfolio by 2030, with confirmed projects in Nanjing, Riyadh, and Florence.
Jaffer’s Track Record
During his earlier tenure at Capella, Jaffer was instrumental in landmark projects such as Fari Islands in the Maldives and Capella Sydney. More recently, as Global Head of LXR Hotels & Resorts at Hilton Worldwide, he expanded that brand from a single property to over 40 hotels worldwide.
Roland Fasel, President of Capella Hotel Group, praised Jaffer’s “deep relationships across institutional and private capital” and his “sharp commercial mind.” Evan Kwee, Vice Chairman, highlighted Jaffer’s entrepreneurial spirit and investment discipline, noting his central role in significant projects.
Jaffer expressed enthusiasm about returning, stating, “To help advance the Group’s global development under Roland’s leadership is a tremendous privilege.” His appointment is expected to drive Capella’s strategic growth and strengthen its position in the luxury hospitality sector.
This executive move comes as the broader travel industry sees strategic shifts. For instance, Perth's BKB Holidays pivots to group-only model by August 2026, reflecting changing distribution strategies. Meanwhile, Cathay Group posts 14% passenger growth in May 2026, plans Almaty and Wuxi routes, indicating robust demand in Asia.
Capella’s expansion plans align with a broader trend of luxury hotel groups targeting high-growth destinations. The group’s focus on hospitality-driven real estate platforms suggests a strategy that blends hotel operations with residential and mixed-use developments.
Jaffer’s appointment is effective immediately. He will report directly to President Roland Fasel and work closely with Vice Chairman Evan Kwee to identify and secure new development opportunities.
