citizenM has expanded its Washington, D.C. footprint with the opening of its third property in the city, this time in the historic Georgetown district. The 230-room hotel, which opened this month, brings the brand's signature design-forward aesthetic to one of the capital's oldest neighborhoods, just a short walk from the Georgetown waterfront.
Design and Amenities
The hotel was designed by Concrete Amsterdam, the firm behind many citizenM properties worldwide. It features the brand's hallmark amenities: a 24/7 canteenM, a fitness center, and a living room space tailored for business travelers. A newly commissioned mural by local artist J.D. Deardourff adds a sense of place, reflecting the neighborhood's cultural character.
As part of Marriott International's Bonvoy loyalty program, guests can earn and redeem points during their stay. Peggy Roe, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at Marriott International, commented: “citizenM has always been a brand that sees travel differently. It understands that today's travelers are looking for more than a place to stay – they want to feel connected to the energy, culture, and character of the places they visit.”
The property aims to serve both tourists and locals, offering a vibrant hub amid Georgetown's shopping streets and cafés. It joins citizenM's growing U.S. portfolio, which includes locations in New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
This opening comes as the hospitality sector continues to see design-led brands expand into key urban markets. For context, similar moves include Radisson RED's debut in Cebu and Millennium Premier Times Square's boutique redesign. The trend underscores a growing demand for lifestyle hotels that blend local culture with consistent brand standards.
Industry observers note that citizenM's strategy of targeting high-traffic, culturally rich neighborhoods aligns with broader shifts in traveler preferences. The Georgetown property is expected to compete with other boutique and lifestyle hotels in the D.C. market, such as those operated by Marriott's own Edition brand and independent properties.
For travel professionals, the hotel's integration with Marriott Bonvoy offers a clear loyalty incentive for corporate and leisure clients alike. The property's design and amenities are positioned to appeal to a mix of business travelers, weekend tourists, and locals seeking a social space.
