Dusit Thani Maldives, situated on Mudhdhoo Island within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, has completed a comprehensive refurbishment of its villa inventory. The project spans multiple accommodation categories, including Beach Residences, Overwater Pool Villas, and Overwater Pavilions, aiming to modernize the guest experience while retaining the resort's signature sense of space and natural integration.

The refreshed interiors adopt a lighter, more contemporary palette, with new furnishings, timber ceiling finishes, and updated lighting. These changes are designed to create a brighter, more inviting atmosphere without compromising the generous layouts and relaxed ambience that have defined the property since its opening.

Part of a Broader Enhancement Program

This villa refurbishment is part of a wider enhancement initiative at Dusit Thani Maldives. Future updates to dining spaces are scheduled to begin in Q3 2026, ensuring the resort continues to evolve in line with guest expectations. A refreshed website has also been launched to streamline trip planning and showcase the property's offerings.

Jean-Louis Ripoche, Area General Manager for Maldives at Dusit International, commented: “Many of our guests return to Dusit Thani Maldives year after year because they value the resort’s natural beauty, generous sense of space, and warm Thai-inspired gracious hospitality. These enhancements allow us to preserve everything guests already love whilst introducing a fresher, more contemporary expression of the resort.”

The resort remains accessible via a short seaplane or domestic flight and speedboat transfer from Malé. Its location within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve continues to be a key draw for environmentally conscious luxury travelers.

Dusit International's broader portfolio includes properties across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The group recently announced plans to add two ASAI Hotels in southern Thailand for 2028–2029, signaling continued expansion in the affordable lifestyle segment. The Maldives luxury resort market remains highly competitive, with properties like Patina Maldives and Ritz-Carlton Maldives at Fari Islands also investing in curated experiences. The Fari Islands Festival 2026 highlights the growing emphasis on art, wellness, and conservation as differentiators. Meanwhile, sustainability initiatives such as Banyan Tree Maldives' Plastic Free July underscore the sector's shift toward guest-focused conservation.

For travel professionals advising clients on Maldives stays, the Dusit Thani Maldives refurbishment offers a refreshed product that balances contemporary design with the resort's established strengths in space and Thai-inspired hospitality. The phased approach to upgrades—with dining spaces to follow—signals a long-term commitment to quality that agents and operators can confidently communicate to discerning travelers.
