Embraer and Portugália Airlines, the TAP Group subsidiary operating under the TAP Express brand, have signed a renewed Component Pool Programme agreement covering the carrier's fleet of 19 E-Jets. The deal, announced on 15 October 2026, is designed to optimise aircraft availability as Portugália expands its regional network across Europe and North Africa.
The agreement provides comprehensive support for Portugália's 12 E-190 and seven E-195 aircraft, encompassing more than 300 components across various systems. Embraer will deliver advanced exchange services, repair, and overhaul solutions, reducing the airline's need for in-house inventory and warehousing.
Strengthening a long-standing partnership
Mário Lobato de Faria, Managing Director of Portugália Airlines, expressed confidence in the renewed collaboration. "More than the Programme itself is the Embraer team behind it with whom we relate in a fantastic way," he said, highlighting the value of the relationship beyond the technical scope.
Carlos Naufel, President and CEO of Embraer Services & Support, underscored the significance of the renewal. "Their continued confidence in our solutions is a testament to the value it delivers to operators worldwide," he noted, pointing to the programme's track record in cutting component repair costs and inventory holding expenses.
Embraer's Pool Programme is a cornerstone of its aftermarket services, offering guaranteed performance levels and access to a global network of technical expertise. For Portugália, the agreement is expected to streamline maintenance operations and improve dispatch reliability, which is critical as the airline feeds TAP's long-haul hub in Lisbon.
Portugália has been part of the TAP Group since 2007 and operates under the TAP Express brand, serving destinations in Europe and North Africa. The carrier contributes roughly 25% of TAP Group's flights, making its operational efficiency vital to the parent airline's network strategy.
The renewal comes amid broader developments in Embraer's services business. The Brazilian manufacturer has been expanding its support offerings, including recent moves such as exploring a C-390 assembly line in India, which could further bolster its global footprint.
For travel professionals, the agreement underscores the importance of reliable regional feed for international carriers. Portugália's E-Jets are a key component of TAP's connectivity, funneling passengers from secondary cities into Lisbon for onward long-haul flights. Enhanced component support directly translates into fewer cancellations and delays, benefiting both the airline and its passengers.
Embraer's services division has been a growth area for the manufacturer, with pool programmes now covering hundreds of aircraft worldwide. The company's ability to secure renewals from existing customers like Portugália signals strong satisfaction with its aftermarket solutions.
As regional aviation continues to recover and expand, partnerships like this one will be crucial in maintaining fleet reliability and cost efficiency. Portugália's commitment to the E-Jet family also reinforces Embraer's position in the 70-150 seat segment, where it competes with Airbus and Boeing offerings.
