Accor has appointed Gilles Cretallaz as senior vice-president of operations for Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems across Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, and the Maldives. The move underscores the group’s commitment to strengthening its luxury portfolio in one of the world’s fastest-growing travel regions.
Cretallaz, based in Bangkok, returns to Accor after a stint as chief operating officer at Dusit International, where he managed a portfolio of 60 hotels and resorts. His earlier career at Accor spanned more than three decades, including senior leadership roles across Asia Pacific and hands-on management of iconic properties such as Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, SO/ Bangkok, and Sofitel Bangkok.
Strategic Focus on Renovations and Growth
In his new role, Cretallaz will oversee hotel operations, owner relationships, brand delivery, talent development, and strategic growth initiatives. He will also support landmark renovation projects aimed at reinforcing the positioning of several flagship hotels, including Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, Sofitel Saigon Plaza, and Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa.
Markus Keller, chief operating officer of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems, commented: “Gilles brings an exceptional combination of operational expertise, strategic vision, and deep understanding of luxury hospitality across Asia. As we continue to strengthen our luxury presence and invest in some of our most iconic properties, his leadership will be instrumental in shaping the next chapter of growth for our brands across Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, and the Maldives.”
The appointment comes as Accor pushes forward with a broader expansion strategy in the region. The group recently announced a partnership with Sun Group to add 5,300 keys across Vietnam, including new brand debuts. That deal, covered in Accor and Sun Group to Add 5,300 Keys Across Vietnam with New Brand Debuts, reflects the company’s aggressive growth targets in Southeast Asia.
Cretallaz’s return also aligns with Accor’s global luxury ambitions. The group’s Global Leadership Council recently mapped out 2026 hospitality trends, focusing on AI, loyalty, and strategic partnerships, as detailed in Accor's Global Leadership Council Maps 2026 Hospitality Trends: AI, Loyalty, and Strategic Partnerships. Cretallaz will be expected to translate these trends into operational excellence across his portfolio.
Today, Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems represent more than 240 hotels worldwide, delivering luxury experiences rooted in local culture, craftsmanship, and meaningful connections. Cretallaz’s deep operational expertise and strong owner relationships make him well-suited to guide the continued evolution of these brands across East and Southeast Asia.
His experience spans luxury operations, development, repositioning, and performance, giving him a comprehensive view of the challenges and opportunities in the region. As Accor invests in some of its most iconic properties, Cretallaz’s leadership will be critical in ensuring that these hotels maintain their competitive edge in an increasingly crowded luxury market.
