Holland America Line has opened bookings for its 2028 Alaska season, unveiling a lineup that includes the debut of the reimagined Oosterdam and a new routing from San Diego to Vancouver. The season spans seven to 18-day itineraries, with departures from Seattle, Vancouver, and the new San Diego embarkation.

The 2028 program introduces several firsts for the line, including scenic cruising through Nootka Sound and the first sailings of the Oosterdam following its Evolution transformation. The ship will be the first to feature Holland America Evolution, the company's largest fleet investment, which includes new Solo Verandah staterooms, Bridgeview Suites, and the Grand Dutch Café.

Paul Grigsby, vice president of revenue planning and deployment, said in a statement: “Our 2028 season reflects that approach, pairing the Alaska highlights guests expect with a collection of distinctive experiences.”

New itineraries and overland options

Among the new voyages is the 11-day California to Alaska Shores, Fjords & Glaciers, which combines the California coast with Alaska's Inside Passage. The 18-day Great Bear Rainforest & Alaska Explorer offers an extended exploration of the region, including the Great Bear Rainforest.

The Oosterdam will also serve as the primary vessel for Alaska Cruisetours, which combine the cruise with overland exploration into Denali National Park and the Yukon. These packages are designed for travelers seeking a deeper land-based experience, a segment that continues to grow for the line.

Holland America's Alaska program has long been a cornerstone of its deployment, and the 2028 season aims to build on that with a mix of classic ports and new scenic experiences. The addition of Nootka Sound, a remote inlet on Vancouver Island's west coast, is a notable differentiator for the line.

Guests booking early can take advantage of the Have It All Early Booking Bonus, which includes perks such as shore excursion credits, premium WiFi, and other amenities. This is part of the line's strategy to drive early demand and secure occupancy well ahead of sailing.

The 2028 season also reflects broader trends in the cruise industry, where lines are investing heavily in ship upgrades and unique itineraries to attract repeat and new customers. Holland America's Evolution program is a key part of that effort, with the Oosterdam serving as the flagship for the initiative.

Travel advisors and agents will find the new season offers a range of options for clients, from shorter seven-day voyages to longer expedition-style itineraries. The San Diego departure adds a West Coast gateway that may appeal to clients in California and the Southwest.
