Liverpool's Hope Street Hotel has reported an 18% year-on-year increase in direct revenue following the deployment of a unified online booking platform developed in partnership with Journey, a hospitality performance technology provider. The system enables guests to book rooms, spa treatments, dining at the 2 AA Rosette restaurant Carriageworks, and gift vouchers within a single transaction, transforming what was previously a room-centric booking process into a comprehensive digital experience.

From Room Booking to Full-Stay Personalisation

The 149-bedroom property, which also operates an award-winning spa, has shifted its digital strategy from a focus on room reservations to an integrated approach that allows guests to personalise their entire stay in advance. This change has reduced administrative workload for staff while driving higher guest engagement and spend. Since adopting Journey's platform, the hotel's booking conversion rates have more than doubled the industry average, according to the property's management.

Spa revenue has increased by 140% since 2023, a direct result of making spa treatments bookable alongside rooms in a single basket. Additionally, 74% of the hotel's vouchers are now sold online, and when guests redeem those vouchers digitally, they spend an average of 53% more than the voucher's face value.

"We chose Journey because we were looking for an all-in-one basket solution that would allow guests to build their entire stay in one place," said Mary Clark, Revenue Manager at Hope Street Hotel.

Simon Bullingham, Founder and CEO of Journey, added: "Hotels that make it easy to build that experience in a single booking journey are seeing stronger engagement, higher spend, and more direct revenue."

Broader Industry Implications

The results from Hope Street Hotel underscore a growing trend among independent and boutique properties to invest in direct booking technology that competes with the capabilities of major online travel agencies. By offering a seamless, multi-product booking experience, hotels can capture more ancillary revenue and build stronger guest relationships without relying on third-party intermediaries.

This approach aligns with strategies seen across the hospitality sector, where properties are increasingly bundling accommodations with experiences, dining, and wellness services to increase average transaction value and guest satisfaction. The success at Hope Street Hotel suggests that even mid-sized urban hotels can achieve significant revenue gains by modernising their digital sales infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Hope Street Hotel plans to further invest in its digital guest journey, including launching a new website and experience-focused marketing campaigns to drive direct engagement. These initiatives are expected to build on the momentum generated by the Journey platform and continue shifting booking volume away from third-party channels.

For travel professionals — from hoteliers and revenue managers to tour operators and travel-tech vendors — the case study offers a clear example of how unified booking technology can deliver measurable returns. As the industry continues to recover and evolve, properties that prioritise direct, personalised booking experiences are likely to outperform those that rely on fragmented systems.
