Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of 20 new hotels during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, expanding its total portfolio to 645 properties. The company also opened 11 hotels in the same period, reinforcing its position as India’s largest hospitality operator. IHCL’s development pipeline now stands at 263 hotels, the highest in the industry.

Growth Brands Drive Expansion

Of the 20 new signings, 17 are under IHCL’s growth-focused brands: Gateway, Ginger, and Tree of Life. These signings introduce the group to new destinations such as Bharatpur, Trichy, and Sindhudurg, while strengthening its footprint in established markets like Mumbai, Goa, and Kolkata. “Taj reached a milestone of 150 hotel portfolio with three signings this quarter,” said Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development at IHCL.

The company’s strategic roadmap, Accelerate 2030, targets a 700-hotel portfolio. Deepika Rao, Executive Vice President – Hotel Openings & New Businesses, highlighted international growth with the opening of Taj Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt and Taj Bush Lodge in Greater Kruger, South Africa. The SeleQtions brand expanded with Ayodhayam in Ayodhya and Bandra House in Mumbai, while Ginger opened in Hyderabad, Agra, and other key locations.

IHCL’s diverse brand portfolio includes the iconic Taj, the lean luxe Ginger, and the boutique Tree of Life. The company continues to blend Indian hospitality with world-class service across its global network. For travel professionals, this expansion signals increased inventory and new opportunities in both leisure and business segments.

As IHCL accelerates its growth, the company’s focus on tier-2 and tier-3 cities aligns with broader trends in Indian domestic travel. The openings in Frankfurt and South Africa also reflect a push into international markets, catering to both outbound Indian travelers and global tourists. IHCL’s pipeline of 263 hotels includes properties across all its brands, with a significant portion in the development phase. The company’s ability to sign and open hotels simultaneously demonstrates operational strength and market confidence. For agents and tour operators, this means more options for clients seeking luxury, midscale, or budget accommodations in India and abroad.

The expansion also supports the broader travel ecosystem, including airlines and cruise lines, as increased hotel capacity drives demand for flights and packages. For example, TransNusa adds Jakarta–Bangkok flights, expands domestic network from Bali, highlighting the interconnected nature of travel growth in the region.

IHCL’s commitment to sustainability and local partnerships remains a key differentiator. The company’s Tree of Life brand, for instance, focuses on eco-friendly properties in natural settings. As the hospitality sector evolves, IHCL’s diversified approach positions it well for long-term growth.
