InterContinental Muscat marked Omani Women's Day on 17 October with a ceremony recognizing 30 Omani women whose work underpins the property's daily operations. The hotel's management organized the event to spotlight contributions spanning Front Office, Engineering, Sales and Marketing, Culinary, Food and Beverage, and Security.

Sebastian Thomas, General Manager of InterContinental Muscat, said: "Omani Women's Day is a moment to recognise the strength, dedication and leadership of women, and the difference they make every day in our hotel and across the hospitality industry." His remarks underscored a broader industry push to elevate female talent in Gulf hospitality, a theme echoed in recent analysis of women's leadership in Asian travel.

Career pathways highlighted

The honorees exemplify upward mobility within the IHG property. Maryam Ali Saif Al Afani joined through the hotel's "Madhyaf" programme and has advanced to General Accountant. Shatha Marhoon Khamis Al Hamadani, part of the Culinary team, earned a Gold Medal in the Omani Dish category at Horeca Oman. Ruwaida Al Taley moved from Front Office to Sales Manager, Government, demonstrating clear progression routes.

Basem Al Hasani, Director of Human Resources, emphasized the impact of these women: "Their professionalism, care and attention to detail are felt by our guests and their teammates alike." The hotel continues to invest in training and development to support the career progression of its Omani colleagues, ensuring a rewarding future in hospitality.

The celebration aligns with broader regional efforts to recognize women's roles in tourism. In the UAE, for instance, Miral's Talli workshop honored Emirati women at SeaWorld Yas Island, reflecting a Gulf-wide focus on female empowerment in the sector.

InterContinental Muscat's initiative also resonates with IHG's global diversity and inclusion commitments. The property's approach mirrors practices at other InterContinental properties, such as InterContinental Phuket Resort's GSTC certification, which underscores the brand's focus on responsible operations and community engagement.

As Oman's hospitality sector expands—with new openings like Tivoli LA VIE Muscat adding 79 keys to the capital—retaining and advancing local talent becomes increasingly critical. InterContinental Muscat's recognition of its Omani women staff signals a commitment to building a sustainable workforce that reflects the country's demographics.

The hotel's management framed the event not as a one-off gesture but as part of ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive workplace. By highlighting individual achievements, the property aims to inspire other Omani women to pursue careers in hospitality, a sector that offers diverse roles from engineering to culinary arts.

For travel industry professionals, the celebration underscores a growing trend: hotels are investing in local talent development as a competitive advantage. As Oman positions itself as a premier Gulf destination, such human capital strategies will be key to delivering authentic guest experiences.
