Juspay, a global payments technology firm, has announced an expanded partnership with Wego, the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The move is designed to support Wego's growth by integrating local payment service providers and methods, ensuring travelers can pay using familiar options.

Wego, which operates in markets including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait, allows users to compare and book flights and hotels from numerous airlines and agencies. As the company scales across the region, the partnership with Juspay is key to adapting to the diverse payment preferences—from credit cards to digital wallets—that vary by country.

Payment orchestration for regional relevance

The collaboration leverages Juspay's payment orchestration capabilities, enabling Wego to efficiently onboard new payment partners and tailor checkout experiences to individual markets. This approach has already improved Wego's payment performance, enhancing authorization rates and transaction routing.

Alexandre Morin, Director of Payments at Wego, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “As we scale across markets with different payment behaviours, our partnership with Juspay gives us the flexibility to offer more locally relevant ways to pay whilst maintaining a simple and reliable booking journey.”

Nakul Kothari, Head of APAC & Middle East at Juspay, emphasized the significance of reliable payment systems in diverse markets: “By combining that regional expertise with our payment orchestration technology, we can help Wego adapt to local payment ecosystems whilst supporting a consistent experience as the business continues to grow.”

For travel professionals, this partnership underscores the growing importance of localized payment solutions in emerging markets. As more travelers in MENA shift to digital wallets and buy-now-pay-later services, OTAs and airlines must ensure their checkout processes are optimized for regional preferences.

Wego's expansion strategy includes not only strengthening its presence in the Gulf but also tapping into markets like North Africa and the Levant. The company has been investing in mobile-first experiences and partnerships with local carriers, such as Riyadh Air's codeshare expansion, to broaden its inventory.

The Juspay partnership is part of a broader trend of travel-tech vendors enabling payment flexibility. Similar moves are being seen across the industry, from cruise lines adapting to Asian booking behaviors to airlines offering multi-city options that require seamless payment processing.

As Wego continues its regional and global expansion, the partnership with Juspay will explore new payment solutions to meet evolving business and customer needs. This strategic alliance aims to make travel booking more seamless and locally relevant for MENA travelers, a key factor in driving conversion and customer loyalty.

For travel agents and tour operators in the region, the enhanced payment options could simplify booking processes for clients, particularly those who prefer alternative payment methods. The integration also signals a shift toward more agile payment infrastructures in the travel industry, which could influence how other OTAs and airlines approach their own payment strategies.
