Agoda has introduced a new AI-powered chat assistant, the Room Grid Bot, designed to help travellers choose the right hotel room from the often overwhelming array of options. Available within the Agoda mobile app, the bot analyses a user's search details and stated preferences to offer tailored room recommendations directly in the conversation, removing the need for manual comparison of every listing.
The tool addresses a common pain point in the booking journey: rooms vary by occupancy, cancellation terms, meal inclusions, and price, making selection a time-consuming process. By tapping the "Need help choosing a room? Let AI help you" banner on the room selection page, travellers can ask specific questions, such as check-in times, and receive a highlighted "Best pick" to simplify decision-making.
Part of a broader AI strategy
The Room Grid Bot is the latest addition to Agoda's suite of AI-driven tools, which already includes the Property AMA Bot and the Booking Form Bot. Together, these tools aim to provide comprehensive support throughout the booking journey, from initial search to final confirmation. Idan Zalzberg, Chief Technology Officer at Agoda, said, "Choosing a hotel is only part of the booking decision. Travellers also need to find the right room for their trip, which can be challenging when many options are available. The Room Grid Bot helps narrow down those choices based on what travellers want and need."
This launch underscores Agoda's continued investment in technology to make travel planning more intuitive. The platform offers access to over 6 million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes, and 300,000 activities worldwide, and the new bot is expected to enhance the user experience for both leisure and business travellers.
For travel industry professionals, the move signals Agoda's focus on using AI to reduce friction in the booking process, a trend that is reshaping online travel agencies. The company has also been rolling out a unified partner portal for hoteliers, indicating a broader effort to streamline operations for both travellers and accommodation providers.
Agoda's AI initiatives extend beyond booking assistance. The company recently partnered with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council to launch Japanese-language sustainable tourism training, and has been leveraging data to highlight emerging destinations, such as Busan and Ulsan in South Korea. These efforts reflect a strategic approach to using technology and data to enhance the travel ecosystem.
As AI becomes more embedded in travel platforms, the Room Grid Bot represents a practical application that directly addresses traveller needs. By providing instant, personalised recommendations, it aims to reduce the time spent on room selection and increase booking confidence. For hoteliers and other partners, this could translate into higher conversion rates and improved guest satisfaction.
The bot is now live in the Agoda mobile app, and the company plans to continue refining its AI capabilities based on user feedback. With the travel industry increasingly relying on digital tools, Agoda's latest innovation is a clear example of how AI can enhance the customer experience while supporting the operational goals of travel businesses.
