The Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) Canada has launched its 'Ride to Korea' campaign in Toronto, deploying a giant LED-equipped lorry to promote travel to South Korea. Running from 5 June to 10 July 2026, the campaign aims to bring Korean culture and travel appeal directly to Canadian consumers.
Campaign Mechanics and Sweepstakes
The centrepiece is a state-of-the-art LED megalorry branded under South Korea's global tourism banner 'Imagine Your Korea'. This mobile showcase will traverse Toronto's iconic neighbourhoods and high-traffic areas, including the CN Tower, Nathan Phillips Square, and the Distillery District, capturing the attention of passers-by.
To enter the sweepstakes for two return airline tickets to South Korea, participants must subscribe to the Imagine Your Korea YouTube channel, comment on a designated post, and submit their entry via a Google Form. Additionally, KTO Canada's Instagram account will host weekly contests offering $100 gift cards.
The campaign is built around three pillars: Celebrate the Game, Chase the Lorry, and Discover Korea. It combines street engagement with an interactive digital experience, with local content creators tracking the lorry's journey in real-time and sharing exclusive content on social media.
Industry Context
This initiative comes as South Korea continues to invest in attracting Canadian travellers. According to recent data from Agoda, Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Osaka top the list of short-haul getaways for South Koreans, but the KTO is now focusing on outbound promotion to Canada. The campaign also aligns with broader trends in destination marketing, where mobile and experiential activations are increasingly used to engage potential visitors.
A KTO Toronto representative stated, 'The Ride to Korea campaign is more than just marketing—it's an open invitation for Canadians to experience a taste of Korea right here in their home city.'
For travel professionals, this campaign highlights the growing importance of street-level engagement and digital integration in destination marketing. Similar strategies have been employed by other tourism boards, such as Saudi Arabia's TourismX AI platform, which reshapes the visitor economy through technology. Meanwhile, cruise lines like Azamara have challenged industry scale obsessions with small-ship campaigns, showing that targeted, experiential marketing can be effective across travel sectors.
