Marriott International has signed a management agreement with Himalayan Bliss Spa & Resorts to debut its Le Méridien brand in Rishikesh, India. The Le Méridien Rishikesh Resort & Spa is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2028, adding 120 guest rooms and suites to the city's hospitality landscape.

Positioned as a wellness and cultural retreat, the resort will blend contemporary design with the spiritual heritage of Rishikesh, a destination known for yoga, meditation, and the Ganges River. The property will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby lounge, meeting and event spaces, a fitness center, a swimming pool, a spa, a kids club, and an activity center.

Located near landmarks such as Laxman Jhoola and The Beatles Ashram, the resort will offer guests easy access to Rishikesh's iconic attractions. Jolly Grant Airport is approximately 20 kilometers away, providing connectivity for domestic and international travelers.

Strategic expansion into spiritual destinations

Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President at Marriott International, highlighted the company's focus on destinations with deep cultural and spiritual significance. "Rishikesh is a unique market that aligns with our growth strategy in India," Andicot said. "Through Le Méridien, we aim to offer travelers a refined experience that celebrates local culture and wellness."

Girish Agarwal of Himalayan Bliss Spa & Resorts expressed optimism about the project's impact. "This development will strengthen the region's hospitality sector and create meaningful local employment opportunities," Agarwal noted.

The signing underscores Marriott's broader push into spiritual and wellness tourism across Asia. Earlier this year, the group expanded its portfolio with the debut of LXR Hotels & Resorts in India, signaling a growing appetite for upscale, experience-led properties in the subcontinent.

Rishikesh has emerged as a key destination for wellness travel, attracting both domestic and international visitors. The new Le Méridien property will compete with existing luxury offerings while catering to a niche segment seeking high-quality accommodation combined with cultural immersion.

Marriott's move also reflects a wider industry trend of hotel groups investing in spiritual and heritage destinations. Similar initiatives, such as the expansion of wellness-focused facilities at Westin Nusa Dua Bali, highlight the growing demand for holistic travel experiences.

The resort is expected to boost Rishikesh's appeal as a year-round destination, leveraging its proximity to the Himalayas and the river. With its mix of modern amenities and cultural programming, Le Méridien Rishikesh aims to set a new benchmark for hospitality in the region.

As the project moves forward, Marriott will work closely with Himalayan Bliss Spa & Resorts to ensure the property meets brand standards and delivers on its wellness promise. The opening in 2028 will mark a significant addition to Marriott's India portfolio, which continues to grow across multiple segments.
