Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC) and IHG Hotels & Resorts have formalised a management agreement that will bring the Ruby hotel brand to Thailand and, for the first time, to the Asia Pacific region. The 184-key property is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2027 in Bangkok's Silom–Sathorn central business district, occupying the site of the former Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Sathorn.

The move underscores a broader push by both companies to strengthen Bangkok's lifestyle hospitality segment. Ruby, a German-born brand known for its design-led, tech-forward approach, will target travellers seeking premium stays with distinctive character, blending local cultural experiences with IHG's international distribution and operational expertise.

A creative hub in Sathorn

The hotel will feature a signature “Co-living Lounge” inspired by art and music, complete with a café and a mixologist bar. Designed as a social anchor, the space will cater not only to guests but also to local residents and office workers in the surrounding business district, reinforcing Sathorn's evolution into a mixed-use destination.

Wallapa Traisorat, CEO and President of AWC, said the opening would mark a new chapter in the company's long-standing partnership with IHG. “Bringing the first Ruby hotel in Thailand and Asia Pacific to Bangkok's Sathorn CBD reflects our commitment to innovative hospitality and the continued development of this vibrant district,” she added.

Rajit Sukumaran, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for East Asia and Pacific at IHG, said the company was pleased to introduce its premium lifestyle brand to one of the region's key travel markets. “Bangkok's dynamic mix of business and leisure makes it an ideal launchpad for Ruby in Asia Pacific,” he noted.

The conversion of the existing Holiday Inn Express property is part of a wider trend among hotel groups to reposition assets in prime urban locations. For AWC, the project aligns with its strategy to diversify its portfolio beyond traditional full-service hotels and into lifestyle-oriented concepts that appeal to a new generation of travellers.

Industry observers point to the growing appetite for experiential stays across Asia Pacific, a shift that has been outpacing broader recovery in the region. Ruby's emphasis on design, local immersion, and social spaces is well positioned to capitalise on this demand.

The Sathorn area itself is undergoing a transformation, with new office towers, cultural venues, and dining concepts reshaping its identity. The hotel aims to become part of that creative scene, offering a base for both business travellers and leisure visitors exploring Bangkok's expanding cultural map.

With the opening still two years away, AWC and IHG are expected to finalise design details and begin renovations in the coming months. The project will be closely watched by hospitality developers across the region, as it marks the first Asia Pacific entry for Ruby, a brand that has gained a following in Europe for its efficient, design-forward model.

For travel professionals, the development signals continued confidence in Bangkok's hotel market despite global headwinds. The city's status as a regional aviation hub, reinforced by expanding air links with India and other markets, supports sustained demand for both business and leisure accommodation.

As the project progresses, AWC and IHG will likely provide further details on the hotel's amenities, technology integration, and sustainability features. For now, the announcement adds another layer to Bangkok's competitive hospitality landscape, where established players and new entrants are vying for the attention of discerning travellers.
