Marriott Bonvoy and Samsung Card have unveiled a new premium co-branded credit card in South Korea, the Marriott Bonvoy THE PRESTIGE Samsung Card. The product is designed to capture the country's expanding appetite for premium travel, bundling hotel loyalty benefits with everyday spending rewards.
The card grants automatic Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, a significant draw for frequent travellers, and includes Free Night Awards that can be redeemed across Marriott's global portfolio of more than 8,700 properties. Cardholders earn 2 Marriott Bonvoy points per KRW 1,500 spent, with bonus points on Marriott stays, overseas transactions, and select categories such as golf and duty-free shopping.
John Toomey, Chief Commercial Officer for Asia Pacific excluding China at Marriott International, said the partnership aims to turn routine spending into meaningful travel experiences. “By combining Samsung Card's extensive customer base with Marriott Bonvoy's global hotel network, we are giving Korean travellers a powerful tool to accelerate their rewards,” Toomey said.
Samsung Card, which counts 11.6 million cardholders, sees the card as a strategic fit for Korea's premium travellers. Dae-soon Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Card, noted that the card aligns with the aspirations of consumers who value both financial flexibility and lifestyle benefits.
Fast-track to elite status
Beyond Gold Elite status, the card offers a fast-track path to Platinum Elite status, a tier that includes lounge access, room upgrades, and late checkout. Cardholders also receive airport lounge passes, a perk that resonates with the region's frequent flyers.
To drive early adoption, Marriott and Samsung Card are running two limited-time promotions. Early applicants can accelerate their path to Platinum Elite status, while new cardholders receive 15 Elite Night Credits, which count toward status qualification. These offers are intended to appeal to Korean consumers eager to maximise their travel rewards.
The launch comes as South Korea's outbound travel demand continues to recover and grow, with premium travel segments outperforming the broader market. The card's structure reflects a broader trend in the loyalty industry, where co-branded cards are becoming a key channel for hotel groups to deepen customer engagement.
Marriott has been actively expanding its loyalty ecosystem across Asia Pacific. The company recently highlighted its localization strategy and AI-driven personalization efforts, as detailed in an interview with Marriott's Drew Pinto. The new card also complements Marriott's ongoing property investments in the region, such as the multi-million-pound revamp of Marriott Marble Arch in London.
For travel advisors and corporate travel managers, the card offers a new tool for clients who frequently stay at Marriott properties. The ability to earn points on everyday spending, combined with elite status benefits, could influence hotel selection decisions, particularly for business travellers.
The partnership also signals a growing convergence between financial services and travel loyalty programs. As hotel groups seek to differentiate their loyalty offerings, co-branded cards with major financial institutions are becoming a competitive battleground. Southwest Airlines recently revamped its Rapid Rewards program with new tiers and global airline partners, underscoring the industry's focus on enhancing loyalty value.
Marriott Bonvoy's global footprint, which includes brands like JW Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, and W Hotels, gives the card broad appeal. The company has also been active in the MICE segment, with properties like Chiang Mai Marriott winning MICE Hotel of the Year at a Thailand awards ceremony.
The Marriott Bonvoy THE PRESTIGE Samsung Card is now available to Korean consumers, with the promotional offers valid for a limited period. The partnership represents a strategic milestone in connecting financial solutions with lifestyle needs, enriching members' lives through meaningful travel rewards.
