Marriott Hotels has marked its entry into Indonesia's capital with the opening of the Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora, a 29-storey property located on Jalan Gelora V. The hotel, which began welcoming guests this month, adds a significant presence for the brand in a city that serves as the country's commercial and political hub.
The property offers 238 keys, comprising 203 guestrooms and suites, along with 35 serviced flats ranging from one to three bedrooms. This mix is designed to appeal to both transient business travellers and longer-stay guests, a segment that continues to grow in Jakarta's dynamic corporate landscape.
Location and connectivity
Situated near major toll roads and Palmerah Station, the hotel provides convenient access to Jakarta's key business districts, including Sudirman and Thamrin, as well as lifestyle destinations such as Senayan City and Pacific Place. The location is expected to be a draw for corporate clients attending meetings at the nearby Gelora Bung Karno complex or the Jakarta Convention Center.
Ramesh Jackson, Regional Vice President for Indonesia and Malaysia at Marriott International, said in a statement: "The opening of Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora is an exciting moment for Marriott International in Indonesia, marking our fourth Marriott Hotels property nationwide." The brand already operates hotels in Bali, Medan, and Yogyakarta, with this Jakarta debut strengthening its footprint in the archipelago's largest city.
F&B and MICE facilities
The hotel features five restaurants and bars, including an Italian restaurant and a Japanese dining outlet, catering to the city's cosmopolitan palate. For meetings and events, the property offers six flexible venues, including a 490-square-metre ballroom that can accommodate up to 450 guests. This positions the hotel to compete in Jakarta's bustling MICE market, which has seen steady demand from both domestic and international corporate groups.
Recreational amenities include a semi-indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, a spa, and a Kids Club. Guests staying in Club Rooms and Suites, as well as eligible Marriott Bonvoy members, gain access to the exclusive M Club Lounge, which offers complimentary breakfast, evening canapés, and a dedicated concierge.
The hotel is enrolled in Marriott Bonvoy, allowing members to earn and redeem points during their stay. This integration is part of Marriott International's broader strategy to leverage its loyalty programme across new properties in Southeast Asia.
The opening underscores Marriott's confidence in Indonesia's growth trajectory, particularly in Jakarta, where hotel supply has been expanding to meet demand from both business and leisure travel. The city's improving infrastructure, including the MRT and LRT systems, has made it easier for visitors to navigate, further boosting its appeal as a meetings destination.
For travel professionals, the new property adds another option in Jakarta's upscale segment, competing with established names such as the Four Seasons Jakarta, which recently appointed a new executive chef, and the JW Marriott Jakarta. The hotel's serviced flats also cater to extended-stay travellers, a niche that has been growing in the capital.
Marriott International's expansion in Indonesia continues apace, with the company also developing new properties in other parts of the country. The brand's recent moves in the region include a partnership with FICO to expand its Thai portfolio with seven new hotels, reflecting a broader push across Southeast Asia.
As Jakarta's hospitality market evolves, the Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora is poised to capture a share of the corporate and MICE segments, while also appealing to leisure travellers exploring the city's vibrant culture and dining scene. With its strategic location, comprehensive facilities, and Marriott Bonvoy integration, the hotel is well positioned to become a key player in the capital's hotel landscape.
