Marriott International has entered a joint venture with the Leali family, founders of the Italian luxury wellness brand Lefay, to bring the brand into its global portfolio. Announced on 10 June 2026, this marks Marriott's first brand exclusively focused on luxury wellness, a strategic move to deepen its wellbeing offerings for discerning travelers.

Founded in 2006 by Domenico Alcide and Liliana Leali, Lefay is known for its immersive resorts set in natural landscapes and its proprietary Lefay SPA Method, which blends scientific research with holistic wellness traditions. The brand emphasizes transformative spaces, serenity, and sustainability, aiming to redefine modern luxury through wellbeing and authenticity. Its properties are designed in architectural harmony with nature, featuring expansive indoor-outdoor spaces and wellness programs that integrate movement, nutrition, and preventative health expertise.

Portfolio and Growth Plans

Lefay currently operates two award-winning resorts: one on Lago di Garda and another in the Dolomites. Additional properties are under development in Tuscany, Southern Italy, and the Swiss Alps. Under the joint venture, Marriott will manage these properties under long-term agreements, while the Italian real estate assets remain with the Leali family. The joint venture will own the Lefay brand and its intellectual property, supporting expansion through Marriott's global development, sales, marketing, and distribution platforms.

Lefay properties will soon be bookable through Marriott's digital channels and will join the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, with full integration expected by late 2026. This partnership allows Marriott to preserve Lefay's unique brand identity while expanding its luxury wellness footprint. For travel professionals, this signals a growing demand for wellness-focused accommodations, a trend that aligns with broader industry shifts seen in destinations like the Middle East, where Abu Dhabi Luxury Real Estate Surge: Hotel Brands Capitalize on Wealthy Homebuyers highlights similar luxury integration.

The move also reflects Marriott's ongoing commitment to sustainability and community engagement, as seen in initiatives like Marriott India Plants 125,000 Trees Under 'Four Trees Per Room' Initiative. By partnering with a brand rooted in Italian heritage and environmental harmony, Marriott is positioning itself to capture the high-end wellness traveler segment, which continues to grow globally.

Industry observers note that this joint venture could set a precedent for other hotel groups seeking to enter the wellness niche without diluting their core brands. For agents and tour operators, the integration into Marriott Bonvoy means Lefay properties will be accessible to a vast loyalty network, potentially driving repeat bookings and cross-selling opportunities. As the luxury travel market evolves, partnerships like this underscore the importance of authentic, experience-driven offerings that go beyond traditional hospitality.
