Spanish hotel group Meliá Hotels International has signed Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne, introducing its luxury brand The Meliá Collection to Vietnam for the first time. The five-star beachfront property, owned by Nam Chau Tourism JSC, is scheduled to open in 2029 and will feature 187 accommodations, including 156 guest rooms and 31 private villas.
The resort's architecture draws from Mui Ne's coastal landscape, with curved, sea-facing forms and terracotta facades that echo the region's iconic sand dunes. Natural textures and open spaces are designed to connect guests with the surrounding environment, blending Spanish hospitality with local cultural elements.
Facilities and Market Positioning
Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne will offer signature dining options, a spa, a fitness centre, versatile meeting spaces, a children's club, and an outdoor swimming pool with coastal views. The property targets luxury leisure travellers and MICE segments, with meeting facilities that can host corporate events and incentives.
This signing brings Meliá's brand count in Vietnam to five, reinforcing its commitment to a market where it already operates 22 hotels and has six more under development. The partnership with Nam Chau Tourism JSC underscores Meliá's strategy of sustainable growth through local collaborations.
For travel professionals, the resort adds a new luxury option in Southeast Asia's competitive beach resort market. Mui Ne, a coastal town in Binh Thuan Province, is known for its sand dunes and fishing villages, and is increasingly positioning itself as a premium destination. The property will compete with other high-end resorts in the region, such as those operated by Accor and IHG.
The signing ceremony took place in Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting the shared vision for Mui Ne's future as a premier travel destination. Meliá's expansion in Vietnam reflects broader trends in the hospitality industry, where global brands are deepening their presence in emerging markets.
Industry observers note that the 2029 opening timeline allows for careful development and integration of sustainable practices, a key focus for Meliá. The group has been expanding its luxury portfolio globally, with The Meliá Collection now present in Spain, Italy, and the Dominican Republic, among other locations.
For agents and tour operators, the new resort offers a fresh product to sell to clients seeking authentic, culturally immersive luxury experiences. The property's design and amenities align with current traveller preferences for wellness, local connection, and sustainability.
Meliá's move also signals confidence in Vietnam's tourism recovery and long-term growth potential. The country has seen a steady increase in international arrivals, with major source markets including China, South Korea, and the United States. The resort's location in Mui Ne, about 200 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City, makes it accessible for both domestic and international travellers.
As the hospitality sector evolves, properties like Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne demonstrate how brands are differentiating through design and local authenticity. The resort's integration of Spanish hospitality with Vietnamese culture could set a new benchmark for luxury resorts in the region.
