Accor has strengthened its midscale presence in South Korea with the official opening of Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun, a 336-room property in the capital's bustling Dongdaemun district. The hotel joins the Mercure Hotels & Resorts network, which now spans more than 1,000 properties across 65 countries, and marks a strategic addition to Accor's portfolio in one of Seoul's most dynamic commercial and cultural hubs.

Design and location rooted in local identity

Situated near Dongdaemun's historic gates, fashion markets, and the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the hotel targets both business and leisure travellers. Its design draws on the neighbourhood's heritage and urban energy, offering a modern interpretation of the area's character. The property features an all-day dining restaurant, LAMER, with live cooking stations serving Korean and international cuisine, and Café M, a relaxed venue for light refreshments and informal meetings. Additional facilities include a fitness centre, three meeting rooms, and a business corner.

Garth Simmons, Chief Operating Officer of Accor's Premium, Midscale & Economy Division in Asia, said the brand aims to help guests discover destinations from a local perspective. General Manager Jay Seong highlighted that the hotel's design and culinary experiences reflect Dongdaemun's creativity and energy.

The opening aligns with Mercure's "glocal" approach—combining global hospitality standards with local relevance. It also complements Accor's broader strategy in South Korea, which recently saw the appointment of Min Sook Cho to lead the group's operations in the country, as reported in Accor's Korea leadership move.

For travel professionals, the new property adds inventory in a district known for shopping, culture, and business activity. It also strengthens Accor's competitive position against other midscale brands in Seoul, where demand from both corporate and leisure segments remains robust. The hotel's meeting spaces and business corner are expected to appeal to MICE organisers looking for a base near Dongdaemun's exhibition and event venues.

Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun is part of a broader wave of hospitality expansion in Asia, with brands like Radisson RED also entering new markets, such as its upcoming Sydney property. As Seoul continues to attract international visitors, the addition of this property underscores the ongoing investment in the city's hotel landscape.

The hotel's opening also comes as air connectivity to Seoul improves, with carriers like Korean Air expanding services on key routes, including a daily Delhi-Seoul service and a new Seoul-Melbourne nonstop. These developments are likely to boost inbound travel, benefiting hotels like Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun.

With its blend of local culture and global standards, the hotel is poised to serve as a gateway for travellers exploring Seoul's vibrant urban environment.
