Oliver's Travels, a specialist in high-end villa rentals, has recorded a notable shift in affluent traveller behaviour: a sharp rise in last-minute bookings for large, high-value properties. Data from the company shows that from April to June, reservations exceeding £25,000 increased by 33% compared to the same period last year, while bookings made within 60 days of departure surged 45% year-on-year.
The trend reflects a growing comfort among wealthy travellers to commit to significant travel expenditures closer to their departure dates. Oliver's Travels also saw demand for larger villas climb, with bookings for properties accommodating 10 or more guests rising 51% year-on-year. This suggests a move toward multi-generational or group travel, where decision-making is compressed into shorter windows.
Travel Advisers Drive Complex Bookings
Travel advisers have been instrumental in capturing this late-booking demand. Oliver's Travels reported a 22% increase in trade bookings year-on-year, with advisers handling increasingly complex itineraries and group logistics. Fern Higgins, Distribution and Travel Adviser Manager at Oliver's Travels, noted: “Bookings made within 60 days of departure have increased by 45% year-on-year. The fact that advisers are bringing us these larger, later booking enquiries suggests affluent travellers are becoming more comfortable making significant travel decisions closer to departure.”
In June alone, the company secured three record group bookings through travel advisers. One standout reservation was a £48,638 stay for 19 guests at Le Belvédère in St Tropez, confirmed just 14 days before departure. Such examples underscore the ability of advisers to secure premium inventory even at short notice, a capability that is increasingly valued by high-net-worth clients.
The company continues to invest in its travel adviser network, offering specialist training and support to help advisers navigate the complexities of luxury villa bookings. This includes guidance on property selection, destination logistics, and group coordination.
Referral Initiative to Expand Trade Network
To further strengthen its trade partnerships, Oliver's Travels has launched a £5,000 referral initiative running until 31 August 2026. The program encourages existing trade partners to refer new travel advisers, with participants entered into a draw for a gift voucher. The initiative aims to expand the company's network and cater to the growing demand for luxury villa holidays, particularly among groups seeking exclusive, private accommodations.
This development aligns with broader trends in the luxury travel sector, where private jet demand is surging as affluent travellers seek to bypass airport congestion, and surprise bookings are gaining traction among UAE travellers. The shift toward shorter booking windows also mirrors patterns seen in other luxury segments, such as Accor's focus on loyalty and strategic partnerships to capture last-minute demand.
For travel professionals, the data from Oliver's Travels offers a clear signal: affluent clients are increasingly willing to book high-value, group-oriented villa stays on short notice. Advisers who can respond quickly and offer expert guidance on large properties stand to benefit from this evolving demand pattern.
