Qatar Airways Holidays has unveiled a new range of stopover packages tied to the FORMULA 1® QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2026, marking the first time the carrier's holiday arm has bundled three-day race tickets with flights and accommodation for transit passengers at Hamad International Airport (DOH). The move is designed to convert layovers into race-day experiences, tapping into the growing demand for sports-led travel in the Gulf region.

The packages include a three-day T16 Grandstand ticket at Lusail International Circuit, offering views of the final sector where drivers often make decisive overtakes. Travelers can choose from four tiers—Standard, Premium, Luxury, and Premium Beach—each with a 24-hour flexible hotel check-in and check-out, a practical perk for those arriving on red-eye flights or departing late after the chequered flag.

Qatar Airways, which serves as the Global Partner and Official Airline of Formula 1®, has been steadily expanding its sports tourism portfolio. The new stopover options complement its existing F1 packages, giving business and leisure passengers an added reason to pause in Doha rather than simply transiting. For travel agents, the bundles simplify booking by combining air, hotel, and event access in one product, potentially boosting commissionable revenue.

Strategic fit with Qatar's tourism push

The launch aligns with Qatar's broader ambitions to grow its stopover segment, a key pillar of the national tourism strategy. The country has invested heavily in infrastructure and hospitality, and the Grand Prix weekend is expected to draw significant international visitors. The packages also support the Qatar's MICE push, as corporate groups often combine race attendance with meetings or incentives.

Privilege Club members can earn Avios and Qpoints on eligible bookings, a loyalty incentive that may appeal to frequent flyers. The packages are slated for booking later this month, giving agents and travelers a window to plan ahead for the November 2026 race.

Lusail International Circuit, located about 20 kilometers north of Doha, has hosted the Qatar Grand Prix since 2021. The 2026 edition will be the third under the current long-term deal, and the circuit's modern facilities are designed to handle large crowds. The T16 grandstand, in particular, is popular for its proximity to the final corners, where race outcomes often hinge on tire management and overtaking opportunities.

For hoteliers, the packages represent a steady source of occupancy during a peak event period. Qatar's hospitality sector has expanded rapidly in recent years, with new properties from international brands joining established five-star options. The Premium Beach tier, for instance, likely bundles stays at beachfront resorts, appealing to travelers who want to combine race action with leisure time.

Travel advisors should note that the stopover packages are distinct from the carrier's standard stopover program, which offers discounted hotel rates for transiting passengers. The F1-specific bundles add event tickets, a differentiator that could attract sports enthusiasts who might otherwise book components separately.

Qatar Airways Holidays has not yet disclosed pricing, but industry observers expect the packages to be competitive with other Gulf carriers' sports offerings. The airline's global network, which includes extensive connections through Doha, positions it well to capture demand from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

As the travel industry increasingly embraces experiential travel, the F1 stopover packages reflect a broader trend of airlines using major events to drive ancillary revenue. Similar initiatives have been seen with the solar eclipse packages in Spain, though the F1 tie-up is more directly linked to the carrier's brand sponsorship.

For agents, the key selling points are the bundled convenience, the flexibility of hotel check-in times, and the loyalty earning potential. The packages also offer a way to upsell clients from a simple layover to a multi-day experience, potentially increasing trip value.

Qatar Airways Holidays is expected to release full details, including hotel partners and pricing tiers, when bookings open. In the meantime, travel professionals can prepare by reviewing the airline's stopover policies and identifying clients who may be interested in combining business travel with the race weekend.
