Radisson Hotel Group has reinforced its commitment to Manchester Airport by extending its lease agreement with Union Investment for the Radisson Blu Hotel until the end of 2035. The deal includes an option for both parties to extend the lease by an additional ten years, potentially prolonging the partnership until 2045.
The Radisson Blu Hotel, strategically located with direct access to the airport terminals, offers 352 rooms and eight exclusive suites. It is the only hotel at the airport providing such convenience, enhancing its appeal to travellers. The hotel also boasts 170 outdoor parking spaces, 27 meeting rooms accommodating up to 400 guests, and a restaurant with views of the airport.
Strategic Position Amid Airport Expansion
Manchester Airport, the UK's third-largest, is projected to handle over 32 million passengers by 2025, with expectations to reach approximately 40 million by 2030. This growth is supported by new long-haul routes to South and East Asia. Thorsten Purkus, Head of Asset Management Hospitality at Union Investment, highlighted the airport's ongoing £1.3 billion transformation programme, which includes a second terminal, as a key factor in the hotel's advantageous position.
Jens Brandin, Cluster General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel, expressed pride in continuing the partnership with Union Investment, emphasising the hotel's unique location and commitment to hospitality excellence.
This extended lease ensures that Radisson Blu Hotel remains a pivotal part of Manchester Airport's infrastructure, poised to benefit from the airport's expansion and increased passenger traffic. The hotel's direct connectivity to terminals makes it a preferred choice for business and leisure travellers alike, reinforcing its role in the region's hospitality landscape.
For travel professionals, this development underscores the importance of airport hotels as strategic assets in gateway cities. As Manchester Airport grows its long-haul network, the Radisson Blu's extended presence offers a reliable option for airlines, tour operators, and corporate clients seeking convenient accommodation.
The lease extension also reflects broader trends in the hospitality sector, where major hotel groups are securing long-term positions at key transport hubs. With the airport's expansion plans, the Radisson Blu is well-positioned to capture increased demand from both transit and destination travellers.
Union Investment's confidence in the property, as expressed by Purkus, signals a positive outlook for the Manchester market. The partnership between Radisson Hotel Group and Union Investment serves as a model for long-term collaboration in airport hospitality.
As the travel industry continues to recover and grow, such strategic moves are likely to become more common. The Radisson Blu's extended lease is a testament to the enduring value of airport locations, even as the industry evolves.
