Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) is rolling out enhanced travel protections in partnership with Emirates and Etihad Airways, aiming to reassure UK visitors ahead of the summer season. The two UAE flag carriers have introduced complementary coverage for medical expenses and trip cancellations, a move designed to bolster confidence among international travellers considering a stay in the northern emirate.
New Coverage from Emirates and Etihad
Emirates is offering a Comprehensive Travel Cover for passengers flying into Dubai International Airport (DXB), while Etihad Airways provides complimentary medical cover for those arriving at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH). Both programmes are intended to reduce financial risk for guests booking holidays to Ras Al Khaimah, which sits roughly 45 minutes by road from DXB. The emirate’s accessibility from two major Gulf hubs gives it a logistical edge over other regional destinations.
“The travel protection now offered by our national carriers means visitors from across the world can book their holiday to the UAE this summer knowing they are covered from the moment they board their flight,” said Phillipa Harrison, CEO of RAKTDA. The statement underscores the authority’s focus on removing friction from the booking process, particularly for long-haul markets such as the United Kingdom.
Hotel Inventory and Seasonal Offers
Throughout the summer months, Ras Al Khaimah’s hotel partners are deploying a range of seasonal deals, including complimentary room upgrades and tailored family packages. The emirate’s accommodation stock spans luxury resorts along its 68-kilometre coastline to boutique properties near the Hajar Mountains. Properties such as the Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi Desert and the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah are expected to participate in the promotions.
Despite headwinds in global tourism, Ras Al Khaimah has maintained strong hotel performance, buoyed by domestic demand from within the UAE. The new carrier-backed protections are expected to further stabilise occupancy rates and encourage longer stays among international guests.
Destination Appeal and Industry Context
Beyond beach tourism, Ras Al Khaimah offers archaeological sites, mountain trekking, and cultural experiences that differentiate it from neighbouring emirates. The destination has been actively courting the UK market through trade partnerships and familiarisation trips for agents. The latest initiative aligns with broader trends in the travel industry, where global tourism hit a record $11.6 trillion but faces climate-related risks that could reshape demand patterns.
For travel professionals, the enhanced protections reduce the need for separate insurance add-ons, simplifying the booking process for agents and tour operators. The move also mirrors similar efforts by other Gulf destinations to rebuild inbound traffic from Europe after recent disruptions.
RAKTDA’s strategy reflects a broader push by UAE tourism authorities to diversify source markets and reduce reliance on any single region. With Emirates and Etihad both expanding their European networks, Ras Al Khaimah is positioning itself as a convenient add-on for travellers already flying into Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
