Saudi Arabian flag carrier Saudia has taken its partnership with the Esports World Cup Foundation to new heights, unveiling what it calls the world's first commercial aircraft dedicated to an esports event. The specially branded Boeing 787 will operate daily services between Riyadh (RUH) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) for the duration of the tournament's first international edition, before continuing across Saudia's global network for the next two years.

From Tarmac to Terminal: A Fully Integrated Esports Experience

The aircraft is more than a flying billboard. Saudia has been named the Official Airline of the Esports World Cup 2026, and its role extends well beyond livery. The carrier is responsible for transporting more than 2,000 professional players from over 200 clubs across 100 countries, along with tournament officials, content creators, and thousands of fans between Saudi Arabia and France. The airline has already flown several contingents to Paris ahead of the competition.

Passengers flying with Saudia will find the tournament experience embedded throughout their journey. The airline's BEYOND inflight entertainment system will feature Esports World Cup: Level Up, a dedicated content channel, while selected live tournament broadcasts will be screened in Saudia's lounges during the event. The carrier is also running the Esports World Cup Superfan programme, offering selected gaming enthusiasts the chance to attend the Paris event in person, and has deployed creators from across the Middle East and North Africa to produce on-the-ground coverage for regional audiences.

The partnership extends into the virtual realm as well. Building on last year's Fortnite activation, Saudia is launching a new community tournament featuring a custom-built map inspired by the airline's branded airport and esports-themed aircraft. Winners will receive tickets to the Esports World Cup in Paris, further bridging online gaming communities with the live event.

Strategic Alignment with Saudi Arabia's Tourism and Entertainment Ambitions

For Saudi Arabia, the initiative is another example of how the Kingdom is blending tourism, aviation, entertainment, and sport to build global visibility. Rather than a simple sponsorship, Saudia is integrating the tournament into nearly every stage of the traveller experience — from the moment passengers see the aircraft on the tarmac to the content they consume during their flight.

"This partnership reflects the global reach and cultural impact esports has today," said François Désir, Director of Sponsorship and Advertising at the Esports Foundation. "From the world's first commercial aircraft dedicated to an esports event to onboard programming and fan experiences, our partnership allows us to extend the tournament experience well beyond the competition itself."

Ibrahim Binaquil, Marketing Head at Saudia Group, emphasised the broader strategic context. "The Esports World Cup reflects Saudi Arabia's growing role in bringing people together through world-class experiences that resonate with audiences around the globe," he said. "As the Kingdom's national flag carrier, our role extends beyond travel to connecting people with experiences that create lasting memories and strengthen cultural exchange."

The renewed partnership builds on last year's Esports World Cup in Riyadh, which attracted more than three million visitors and established the tournament as one of the Kingdom's flagship entertainment events. This year's edition in Paris is expected to welcome over 2,000 professional players representing more than 200 clubs from over 100 countries, competing across 24 games and 25 tournaments for a record prize pool exceeding US$75 million.

As airlines increasingly look beyond traditional sponsorships to engage younger travellers, Saudia's esports-themed aircraft highlights how aviation brands are embracing gaming as both a marketing platform and a way to create richer travel experiences. For Saudi Arabia, it is another high-profile showcase of the Kingdom's ambitions to position itself as a global hub for tourism, sport, entertainment, and digital culture.

Saudia's on-time performance has also been recognised globally, with the Saudia Group leading global on-time performance for the second consecutive month in June 2026, underscoring its operational reliability as it scales these experiential initiatives.
