Shinsegae Simon, the joint venture between Shinsegae Group and Simon Property Group that operates South Korea's leading premium outlet portfolio, is rolling out expanded transportation services and digital payment support to accommodate a surge in international visitors. The company manages five premium outlet locations: Yeoju, Paju, Busan, Siheung, and Jeju. The flagship Yeoju Premium Outlets, which features a broad mix of global luxury houses and Korean brands, is the primary focus of the new initiatives.
In response to the rising trend of Free Independent Travellers (FITs), Shinsegae Simon has added a late-evening round trip to the public express bus route connecting Seoul Express Bus Terminal in Gangnam with Yeoju Premium Outlets. Effective 17 June, the service — operated by Dongbu Express — now offers eight round trips on weekdays and ten on weekends. This extension allows visitors to enjoy evening shopping, a shift from the typical daytime-only schedules common at Korean outlet malls.
Direct Day-Tour Bus Service Expanded
Starting 1 July, the direct day-tour bus service to Yeoju Premium Outlets has been increased from three to five departures per week. Buses leave from popular tourist hubs in Myeongdong and Hongdae, providing approximately six hours of shopping and leisure time at the outlet. Launched in April 2025, the service has seen strong uptake, with tickets available on global online travel agency platforms. Shinsegae Simon plans to offer daily departures by the end of the year, reflecting sustained demand from international shoppers.
The company is also enhancing the in-store experience for overseas guests by supporting major mobile payment platforms: WeChat Pay, Alipay, and LINE Pay Taiwan. These integrations reduce friction for visitors from China, Taiwan, and other Asian markets. Additionally, exclusive discount coupons and dedicated tax refund kiosks are now available at the outlets, streamlining the shopping process for international travelers.
These developments align with broader trends in South Korea's tourism sector. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has been actively promoting the country as a shopping destination, and the expansion of outlet accessibility supports that strategy. For travel agents and tour operators, the enhanced transport links make Yeoju Premium Outlets a more viable day-trip option from Seoul, particularly for clients seeking luxury goods at discounted prices.
Shinsegae Simon's moves also reflect the growing importance of payment diversity in travel retail. As noted in recent industry reports, real-time payouts and digital wallet adoption are reshaping how hospitality and retail businesses serve international guests. The company's decision to integrate WeChat Pay, Alipay, and LINE Pay Taiwan positions it to capture spending from key source markets.
For hoteliers and MICE planners in the Seoul metropolitan area, the expanded evening bus service offers a new leisure option for corporate groups and incentive travelers. The ability to shop until later hours at a premium outlet can differentiate itineraries, particularly for delegates attending conferences at COEX or other Gangnam venues.
Shinsegae Simon's portfolio includes outlets in Yeoju, Paju, Busan, Siheung, and Jeju, each catering to both domestic and international shoppers. The company's focus on Yeoju as a flagship location underscores its role as a bellwether for luxury outlet retail in Asia. With the addition of these transport and payment enhancements, the operator is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the growing inbound tourism market to South Korea.
