Simpson Travel, the UK-based luxury tour operator, has completed the acquisition of South France Villas, a specialist in high-end villa rentals across the Languedoc and the French Riviera. The deal, finalized on 4 August 2026, deepens Simpson Travel's presence in southern France and follows its 2025 purchase of Affinity Villas, which strengthened its Portugal programme.
Strategic growth in the Mediterranean
The acquisition is part of Simpson Travel's broader strategy to consolidate its position in the Mediterranean villa market. By adding South France Villas' portfolio, the operator now offers clients a wider selection of handpicked properties in two of France's most sought-after coastal regions. The move also aligns with Simpson Travel's reputation for bespoke holidays that combine luxury accommodation with authentic local experiences.
Ed Pyke, CEO of Simpson Travel, said: “We've admired South France Villas for a long time, not just for the properties, but for the way Trudi and Niall have built real relationships with their guests over the years. Bringing the business into Simpson Travel means we can carry that spirit forward whilst opening up some exciting new corners of France for our own guests to discover.”
Founders retire, new leadership appointed
The acquisition coincides with the retirement of South France Villas' founders, Trudi and Niall Andrews, who have run the company for over two decades. Trudi Andrews commented: “Simpson Travel is rightly regarded as one of the UK's leading specialist tour operators, and we couldn't have wished for a better home for South France Villas.”
To ensure continuity, Sandra Macdonald, previously with South France Villas, will join Simpson Travel as Portfolio Manager for the South of France. Based near Béziers, Macdonald brings more than 20 years of experience in villa rentals and a deep passion for French travel. Her appointment signals Simpson Travel's commitment to maintaining the personal service that has defined South France Villas.
Expanding the luxury portfolio
Simpson Travel's portfolio now spans the Mediterranean, with a focus on France, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Portugal. The addition of South France Villas' properties in the Languedoc and the French Riviera gives clients access to exclusive villas in areas such as Saint-Tropez, Cannes, and the lesser-known villages of the Languedoc. This expansion is timely, as demand for villa holidays in France continues to grow among discerning travellers.
The move also reflects a broader trend in the luxury travel sector, where operators are consolidating to offer more comprehensive regional coverage. For travel agents, the acquisition means access to a wider inventory of premium villas in southern France, with the backing of Simpson Travel's established brand and operational expertise.
Simpson Travel's growth strategy has been methodical, with the Affinity Villas acquisition in 2025 providing a template for integrating new businesses while preserving their unique character. The company's focus on relationship-driven service and authentic experiences has earned it a loyal clientele and strong trade partnerships.
As the summer 2026 season winds down, Simpson Travel is already marketing its expanded French portfolio for 2027. The operator plans to leverage its new properties to attract both repeat clients and new travellers seeking a more personalised villa experience in the south of France.
For travel professionals, the acquisition underscores the importance of specialist operators in the luxury villa segment. With the retirement of the Andrews and the appointment of Macdonald, Simpson Travel is poised to maintain the high standards that have made South France Villas a respected name in the industry.
