SO/ Maldives is deepening its commitment to bespoke luxury programming as the global travel industry sees a surge in demand for conscious, personalised experiences. In an interview with Travelmao, Olivier Moies-Delval, CEO of the Ennismore-owned resort, outlined how the property differentiates itself in the competitive Maldives luxury market through anticipatory service, design storytelling, and flexible lifestyle offerings.

Personalisation as a Continuous Journey

Moies-Delval emphasised that personalisation at SO/ Maldives begins long before guests arrive. "From the first interaction with our reservations team, we listen closely, understanding not just preferences but the nuances that make each guest unique," he said. Located just 15 minutes from Velana International Airport, the resort leverages its proximity to create a seamless arrival experience. "From the first breath of ocean air to effortless arrival, everything feels taken care of."

This approach extends throughout the stay, with staff empowered to anticipate needs rather than react. "Small gestures combine to create something deeply personal and memorable," Moies-Delval noted. The strategy has yielded tangible results: the Room Division team was named Best Room Division Team of the Year 2026 by Hotelier Maldives, a recognition of the resort's service culture.

Design as a Strategic Differentiator

SO/ Maldives' avant-garde design, blending fashion influences with the natural beauty of the Maldives, serves as a clear competitive advantage. "Design at SO/ Maldives has never been just about how something looks — it's about how it makes you feel," Moies-Delval said. The resort's aesthetic creates an emotional reaction that drives brand recall and rate integrity. "In a market where many luxury resorts can feel similar, our design-led approach gives us a very clear identity. It speaks to a new generation of travellers who seek creativity, individuality, and moments they can connect with and share."

This positioning aligns with broader trends in luxury hospitality, where properties like Milaidhoo have also emphasised simplicity over volume to command ultra-luxury rates.

Balancing Privacy and Vibrant Lifestyle

Today's luxury traveller demands both seclusion and social engagement. Moies-Delval explained that SO/ Maldives' villa design and island layout inherently provide privacy, while a curated calendar of high-energy beach events, sunset cocktails, and wellness activations offers vibrant social touchpoints. "The energy of the island is there when guests want to engage, and equally, it gently steps back when they seek quiet moments," he said. This flexibility encourages longer stays and deeper engagement across dining, wellness, and experiences, creating multiple revenue touchpoints while strengthening emotional loyalty.

Curated Programming Drives Growth

Experiential travel is central to SO/ Maldives' growth strategy. "Experiences are at the heart of how we differentiate SO/ Maldives," Moies-Delval said. The resort's programming evolves constantly, encompassing fitness activations, cultural immersions, and transformative wellness journeys. These curated activities are not add-ons but integral to the property's identity as a lifestyle destination. They drive ancillary revenue through private sessions, signature dining, and bespoke excursions, while reinforcing the brand's positioning beyond accommodation. "Guests leave with stories worth sharing, which amplifies our brand organically across markets," he added.

This approach mirrors broader industry shifts, as airlines like Etihad and Saudia also invest in premium experiences to capture high-value travellers.

Conscious Travel and Long-Term Value

Moies-Delval sees conscious travel as a key driver of demand. "Guests today want meaning and connection alongside luxury," he said. SO/ Maldives' programming is designed to deliver both, building emotional equity that translates into repeat visits and organic word-of-mouth. The resort's ability to balance bespoke luxury with sustainability and cultural authenticity positions it well for the evolving preferences of high-net-worth travellers.

As the Maldives luxury market becomes increasingly crowded, SO/ Maldives' focus on personalisation, design, and curated experiences offers a blueprint for differentiation. "This alignment of guest satisfaction, brand differentiation, and revenue generation is what makes experiential travel a cornerstone of our strategy," Moies-Delval concluded.
