Sono Hotels & Resorts Asia is deepening its footprint in Southeast Asia with a new management agreement that will bring its Sono Moon brand to Bali. The company has partnered with PT Drupadi Management to operate the 225-room Sono Moon Bali Seminyak, an urban lifestyle property slated to open in the first quarter of 2027.
The hotel, located in the heart of Seminyak, is positioned to tap into Bali's enduring appeal as one of the world's most-visited island destinations. The property will offer two swimming pools, a fitness center, a spa, a kids' club, meeting facilities, and all-day dining. Selected areas will be reimagined to include new lifestyle and commercial offerings, enhancing the guest experience and aligning with contemporary travel expectations.
Strategic expansion in Indonesia
Jihong An, Senior Vice President of Sono Hotels & Resorts Asia, underscored Indonesia's importance as a growth market for the group. "Seminyak is a dynamic hub that attracts both leisure and business travelers, and this location gives us a strong platform to introduce the Sono Moon brand to Bali," An said. The move is part of Sono's broader strategy to expand its presence in key Asian markets, with Indonesia identified as a priority.
Herry Budiman, President Director of PT Drupadi Management, expressed confidence in the partnership. "Collaborating with Sono allows us to strengthen our market position and deliver a contemporary hospitality experience that resonates with today's guests," Budiman noted. The repositioning will introduce a modern identity that blends comfort with opportunities to explore Seminyak's local culture and entertainment.
Evan Burns, Area Vice President for Indonesia at Sono Hotels & Resorts Asia, highlighted the operational focus. "This repositioning will connect guests with the vibrant local environment, enhancing both our product and commercial positioning," Burns said. The hotel aims to serve as a gateway for travelers seeking to experience Bali's unique blend of beach life, dining, and nightlife.
The Bali venture follows a series of hospitality expansions across the region, reflecting sustained investor confidence in Southeast Asia's tourism sector. For travel professionals, the new property adds inventory in a high-demand market, with a brand that emphasizes lifestyle and local immersion.
Bali remains a top performer in Indonesia's tourism recovery, and Seminyak continues to attract a mix of upscale and experiential travelers. The addition of Sono Moon Bali Seminyak is expected to bolster the area's accommodation options, particularly for those seeking a contemporary urban stay with resort-style amenities.
As the opening date approaches, the property will undergo a comprehensive repositioning to align with Sono's brand standards. The company has not yet announced a general manager or specific pre-opening milestones, but the management team is expected to be named in the coming months.
For agents and tour operators, the new hotel offers a fresh option for Bali itineraries, especially for clients who prioritize design, wellness, and local experiences. The property's meeting facilities also position it for the MICE segment, tapping into Seminyak's growing appeal as a business-leisure destination.
Sono Hotels & Resorts Asia continues to evaluate additional opportunities in Indonesia and other Asian markets, signaling a period of accelerated growth for the group. The Bali signing is a clear indicator of the company's commitment to expanding its portfolio in the region's most dynamic tourism hubs.
