Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi, the Hyatt-branded property that leans into the UAE capital's architectural landmark, has named Tarun Seth as its new general manager. Seth steps into the role with more than 20 years of experience across luxury hospitality, having held senior positions with Hyatt, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, and Taj Hotels.

In his new position, Seth will oversee all operations at the hotel, which is part of the Capital Gate tower, a structure renowned for its 18-degree lean. His mandate includes strengthening the property's commercial performance and nurturing local talent, aligning with the broader goals of Abu Dhabi's Tourism Strategy 2030, which targets 39.3 million annual visitors by the end of the decade.

A track record of pre-opening and repositioning

Seth's most recent role was general manager at Grand Hyatt Gurgaon, where he led the hotel through its pre-opening phase and established it as a luxury anchor in the Delhi NCR region. During his tenure, the property achieved high guest satisfaction scores and collected multiple industry accolades. His work there earned him the Luxury General Manager of the Year award from Hospitality Horizon.

Before that, Seth held leadership roles with Oberoi and Taj, where he developed expertise in hotel operations, strategic repositioning, and commercial growth. His career has spanned multiple markets, giving him a broad perspective on the evolving expectations of luxury travellers.

Commenting on his appointment, Seth said: "Joining Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi is the beginning of an exciting new journey. Abu Dhabi is a destination that continues to evolve with confidence whilst staying deeply connected to its culture and identity." He added that he aims to enhance the hotel's distinctive identity and create culturally connected guest experiences.

The appointment comes at a time when Abu Dhabi is aggressively expanding its tourism and hospitality offerings. The emirate has been courting Indian travellers with visa fee waivers, and the recent F1 season finale at Yas Marina is set to boost its global profile. Seth's experience in the Indian market could prove valuable as the hotel looks to tap into that growing source of visitors.

Industry observers note that Seth's focus on talent development is particularly relevant for the region, where competition for skilled hospitality staff remains intense. His emphasis on "exceptional colleagues" as the key to memorable guest experiences reflects a broader trend among luxury hoteliers to invest in people as a differentiator.

Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi is part of Hyatt's Andaz brand, which positions itself as a lifestyle-oriented collection of hotels that reflect the local culture and neighbourhood. The property features 189 rooms and suites, along with dining venues and a spa, and is connected to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), making it a popular choice for MICE travellers.

Seth's appointment is the latest in a series of leadership changes across the region's hospitality sector. Earlier this year, Mandarin Oriental Geneva named Christian Wildhaber as general manager, and JTA Holidays appointed Lorraine Adams as regional sales manager for South East England. These moves underscore the industry's focus on experienced leaders who can navigate post-pandemic recovery and shifting traveller preferences.

For travel professionals, Seth's arrival signals a continued emphasis on commercial discipline and cultural authenticity at one of Abu Dhabi's most distinctive hotels. His track record suggests he will push for higher occupancy and revenue per available room while maintaining the property's reputation for personalised service.

As Abu Dhabi's tourism strategy gains momentum, with initiatives like the free UAE visa bundling by Thomas Cook India and SOTC, the role of hotel general managers becomes even more critical. Seth's ability to connect with both international guests and local talent will be key to the hotel's success in a competitive market.
