The Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS) 2026, scheduled for 6–8 October at FIBES in Seville, will position sustainability as the central pillar of tourism innovation. Organisers expect more than 8,000 industry professionals, 200 exhibiting companies, and 400 international speakers to convene for a programme that examines how environmental and social responsibility can directly enhance competitiveness and profitability across aviation, hospitality, cruise, and destination management.

Spain's 2030 Strategy Sets the Stage

The summit aligns closely with Spain's 2030 Sustainable Tourism Strategy, which aims to transform the sector by addressing socio-economic, environmental, and territorial dimensions. The strategy emphasises preserving natural and cultural assets while ensuring a more balanced distribution of tourism benefits. TIS 2026 will showcase technologies and case studies that operationalise these goals, from carbon-footprint tracking tools to community-based tourism models.

Key themes include new European sustainability regulations, regenerative tourism, sustainable destination management, rural tourism, and environmental impact measurement. Speakers such as Jana Adamcová from Prague City Tourism and Bart Schutz from Rewilding Europe will share practical insights on accelerating the transition to a responsible tourism industry. Their sessions will cover how destinations like Prague, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam are balancing visitor growth with community well-being.

The summit will also address aligning sustainability communications with European regulations and integrating biodiversity conservation into tourism activities. For hoteliers and tour operators, this means understanding how to report on environmental metrics credibly and how to embed conservation into itineraries without greenwashing.

For travel-technology vendors, TIS 2026 offers a platform to demonstrate solutions that help airlines, cruise lines, and hotel groups measure and reduce their environmental footprint. The event's focus on data-driven sustainability mirrors broader industry trends, such as the WTTC's transformation of Hotel Sustainability Basics into an independent certification scheme, which provides a benchmark for properties worldwide.

Regenerative tourism will receive particular attention, building on momentum from events like the Regenerative Travel Asia Symposium 2026, which explored hospitality's shift from mere sustainability to active renewal. TIS 2026 will examine how destinations can move beyond minimising harm to actively restoring ecosystems and empowering local communities.

For MICE organisers and travel agents, the summit provides actionable strategies for designing sustainable events and packages. Sessions will cover how to select suppliers based on environmental credentials, how to communicate sustainability efforts to clients without triggering scepticism, and how to leverage certifications to differentiate offerings.

Exhibitors will include technology providers, destination management organisations, and hospitality groups showcasing innovations in waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable sourcing. The event also serves as a networking hub for executives from airlines such as Iberia and Vueling, hotel chains like Meliá and NH Hotel Group, and cruise operators including Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises, all of which have significant sustainability programmes.

As the travel industry faces mounting pressure from regulators, investors, and consumers to demonstrate genuine environmental progress, TIS 2026 positions itself as a critical forum for turning sustainability from a compliance burden into a competitive advantage. The summit promises to deliver not just theoretical discussions but practical blueprints for growth in a decarbonising world.
