Travelodge Hotels Asia has expanded its South Korea footprint with the opening of its largest property in Asia, the 360-room Travelodge Gangnam Yeoksam Seoul. The hotel, which officially opened on 15 October, is positioned in the heart of Seoul's Gangnam district, a key business and lifestyle hub, placing it within easy reach of the COEX convention center and major corporate offices.
The property has undergone a full renovation to align with Travelodge's refreshed brand identity, which emphasizes modern efficiency and practical comfort. Room inventory spans Queen, Twin, Triple, Quadruple, and Accessible categories, catering to both business and leisure travelers. In-room amenities are designed for productivity, with a dedicated coworking lounge, a fitness center, and meeting space for up to 60 delegates.
Strategic location and guest amenities
Beyond the meeting rooms, the hotel offers a business center and a guest lounge equipped with a microwave and hydration station. Breakfast is provided by BON Food Service, and a GS25 convenience store is slated to open on the premises by the end of October, adding to the convenience for guests.
Kevin Hayes, a business traveler from California, praised the hotel's practical approach. "The check-in process was quick and easy, and the room had everything I needed for a business trip," he said.
The location is a major draw. Guests can walk to the Seolleung and Jeongneung Royal Tombs, Bongeunsa Temple, and the Gangnam Station shopping district. For leisure, Lotte World is a short subway ride away, making the hotel a base for both corporate and cultural exploration.
Expansion strategy and opening promotion
To mark the debut, Travelodge is running a "Stay Gold in Gangnam" promotion. Guests who book directly between October 2026 and January 2027 will be entered to win a 24K gold bar and receive a complimentary Hanbok experience, a nod to Korean heritage.
The opening is a significant step in Travelodge Hotels Asia's regional growth strategy, which targets more than 50 properties by 2030. The company's expansion across Asia continues to gain momentum, with recent developments in other markets such as the opening of a Red Sea resort by a rival luxury group highlighting the competitive landscape.
Travelodge's focus on value-driven, tech-enabled hospitality positions it well in Seoul's crowded hotel market. The Gangnam district, known for its high concentration of tech firms and startups, is a prime location for business travel, and the hotel's amenities are tailored to that demographic.
With the addition of this property, Travelodge now operates multiple hotels in South Korea, and the company is expected to leverage its Seoul presence to attract both regional and international travelers. The brand's emphasis on direct booking incentives, such as the gold bar promotion, also aligns with broader industry trends toward reducing reliance on third-party online travel agencies.
As Travelodge continues to expand, it will be interesting to see how it competes with established players in the midscale segment. The company's strategy of combining functional design with strategic locations appears to be resonating with guests, as evidenced by Hayes' positive feedback.
For travel professionals, the new Seoul property offers another option for clients seeking reliable, well-located accommodation in one of Asia's most dynamic cities. The hotel's meeting facilities and coworking spaces also make it a viable choice for small to mid-sized corporate events.
