UnionPay International (UPI) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) have renewed their strategic partnership for another three years, aiming to enhance payment experiences for international visitors and drive tourism spending. The announcement, made on 2 June 2026, builds on a previous collaboration that generated over 40 million impressions through campaigns on leading travel and digital platforms.

The renewed agreement focuses on integrating STB's destination marketing with UnionPay's extensive global payment network. Campaigns will target key source markets, particularly China—Singapore's largest inbound market—and other regional outbound travel segments. These initiatives will highlight Singapore's tourism offerings alongside UnionPay's payment privileges, merchant promotions, and acceptance network across shopping, dining, attractions, transportation, and hospitality sectors.

Premium and MICE Segments Targeted

The partnership will also cater to premium travel and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) segments. By collaborating with banks, luxury travel platforms, and tourism stakeholders, UPI and STB will introduce tailored privileges and curated experiences for UnionPay cardholders visiting Singapore. This aligns with broader industry trends where seamless payment solutions are becoming critical for visitor satisfaction, particularly as international travel demand recovers.

In 2025, Singapore welcomed approximately 16.9 million international visitors, with China as the largest source market. The partnership aims to capitalize on this momentum by offering secure and convenient payment options that encourage higher spending. As noted in recent industry analyses, such as the squeeze on Southeast Asian hotel margins, operational efficiencies—including payment integration—are increasingly vital for tourism stakeholders.

During the previous cooperation period, UPI and STB launched multiple tourism campaigns through leading travel and digital platforms, achieving significant reach. Moving forward, both parties will explore new opportunities in tourism marketing, merchant collaboration, and consumer engagement to support Singapore's tourism growth and cross-border travel ecosystem.

This renewal comes at a time when payment partnerships are reshaping travel transactions globally. For instance, Dida Holdings and WEX recently forged a seven-year payment partnership to streamline travel transactions, highlighting the industry's focus on frictionless payments. Similarly, UnionPay's collaboration with STB underscores the importance of integrated payment solutions in driving tourism consumption.

For travel professionals—including airline executives, hoteliers, cruise lines, tour operators, and travel-tech vendors—this partnership signals a continued emphasis on payment innovation as a tool for destination marketing. As Singapore competes for high-spending travelers, particularly from China and other Asian markets, the ability to offer seamless payment experiences will be a key differentiator.

The partnership also reflects broader trends in the luxury and MICE segments, where personalized experiences and exclusive privileges are paramount. By leveraging UnionPay's network and STB's marketing expertise, the collaboration aims to create a compelling value proposition for premium travelers.
